Female Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens). She flew into one of our second-story windows a couple Novembers ago, then fell all the way to the ground. I was so scared for her! I ran out to make sure she was okay, and she was just laying there, but still alive. So, I warmed her in my hands and let her recover. A few minutes later, she grabbed my fingers and pulled herself upright like she was on the trunk of a tree. She just stayed like that for the longest time, like she was regaining her bearings, and then finally, she flew away. It was a pretty cool experience.
