Well they are spending their first night in the coop. The weather is calling for 52 tonight and I think they are ready. They keep hanging out in the coop and there was no complaining when I locked the door. So no baby peeps at 2-3 am tonight.
Well they survived 45 degrees last night but boy did they make a mess of their water and were wet this am. I’m going to rethink the drinking system probably will use a flat tote with a lid and holes drilled into it. They never made that much of a mess inside.
They are at the age where it isn't necessary to give them feed and water over night. Just keep it outside and take food up so predators or mice don't get into it at night. Not many of us put water inside our coops because of the mess they can make.
The goslings are growing nicely. I think they like their outdoor coop and being outside all the time. They are so very entertaining but what I didn’t expect was their coloring. I knew they were gray and white but each of their feathers have multiple colors. They start gray then light brown and then light gray at the ends. They seem to glow in the sun and have a pearl like appearance. Their only 6 weeks old tomorrow and have feathers that need to come in still but they are so cute. Yes I’m biased but look at Shimmer (and that is in the shade).
Well they have turned 7 weeks old today. Wow the time is flying by. They love the grass seed tops and will eat them first.
With all the talk of new foods I decided to try so of the mango I was eating. They picked it up, played with it, but didn’t eat it. So I guess that was a no go. The chickens loved it so no waste. I’ll have to try the corn on the cob next.
