My husband surprised me with 5 baby chicks last week. I have been wanting them since my friend in the next town got hers, so husband thought he would just do it. After many many phone calls to the city, health department, and animal control I was finally told that NO CHICKENS ARE ALLOWED IN BREMERTON. How could that be possible?? We are surrounded by farms! I just don't understand. If I lived in Seattle I could have 3!
Its so sad that the town has made it impossible to keep our babies.
Does anyone know what we can do? Any way to get permission to keep chickens? I was ready to jump through hoops if I had to but just hearing a great big NO isn't setting well with me.

peony, I suppose you do like the folks in Madison WI did. Keep your underground chickens until you can convince the local folks it's not a big deal.

It's not impossible to change local laws that aren't needed. Here is a link to Mad City Chickens for some insight. http://madcitychickens.com/
