Lightning lifted her head and nickered a warning. "Stay back, Flint." Her shoulders rippled and her eyes represented authority. She snorted, her mane softly blowing. The stallion came closer and she met with him. The moon burned a hole in the night and Midnight's normally black face seemed purple. She tensed, and all was still as she spoke in an assertive tone. "Welcome to the Cimarron."
The stallion threw his head back, tossing his thick, wayward forelock out of his expressive black eyes. "I thank you kindly, ma'am," he replied, extending a heavily feathered leg to bow slightly, "My name's Hodgepodge, but friends have called me by Hodge, Spots, or 'hey you'. Yourself, m'dear?"
Wind looked insulted at the stallion calling her "m'dear".
