The BANTAM ORPINGTON Thread

My black hen has chicks right now. She is normally the sweetest little thing & the bottom of the pecking order. Since she has had these chicks, though, she has gone nuts & turned super aggressive to the other hens! They are all scared of her now. Hopefully when she is done raising her babies she will get back to normal.

Very pretty! Did those come from her eggs? What color is the daddy? I have an OEGB hen that acted like that. She calmed back down after the chicks were older. But my chocolate hens have stayed sweet. Well, one was a little meaner to the other (they raised the chicks together) but neither were ever aggressive toward me.

Thanks, the chicks are not from her eggs; they are EEs. This hen has never been aggressive to me, fortunately, just to the other hens! I am thinking she will probably calm down again though.

I only have 1 hen that has ever been aggressive to me & she is a Wyandotte. She sometimes sneaks up behind me and pecks my back if I am squatting down in the yard. She gets mad if I am not giving her treats, haha! I want to get rid of her but she is my son's pet.

@Honora
You bantam Orp looks like my little Cookie. (nicknamed "Cookie Monster" when broody.)

My Sebright & Cookie hatched chicks on the same day. They fought over the chicks at 1st, so I had to put a divider up between them. (The chicks were small enough to run back & forth for "play dates".) After about 4 days, they got used to each other & I was able to take away the divider. I sold most of the chicks, but the mommies strongly guard those last 3. They're about 4-5 wks old now & free-ranging with the flock. It's funny how they all sqeeze into the same nest box every night.

BTW- Both hens are too small for our roo to fertilize. They must hatch full-sized orps. It won't be long until the chicks are bigger than their mommies.

My pretty little mauve girl. About 10 weeks old
She's beautiful!!!! A mauve orp is on my wishlist.

My daughter hatched some over the summer.... or so we thought.

They looked like mauves when hatched...

but feathers grew in white. ???? Must have had some surprise recessive genes.
All 3 ended up being female.

We kept one & named her "Whoopsie"
Swetest girl & looks lemon-white (Hard to describe color but white with a slight yellow hue.)
She follows me around & is always looking up, begging for treats.

Wow that's amazing. I remember the pic of the chick in your hand, it was exactly what mine looked like at hatch. I was surprised how dark the feathers turned.

I've got a male that is a little lighter than the deeper chococlates, so I'm not sure if he will grow out mauve or choc, but he's a keeper too, so we'll see.

I am getting my bantam buff Orpington trio in December.
The American and Irish orpingtons look completely different.
I found this out through pictures. :D

my breeders from this past year. Producing blue, black, splash, mauve, mauve splash, chocolate, and cuckoo now. First year I've gotten a mauve splash pullet and super excited about her!
