Cheapest toe punch including postage is Strombergs. If you are only ordering a toe punch. I checked them all out and when postage was included, Stromberg's had the best price. For a toe punch chart, just enter "toe punch chart" in your search window. Found one quickly.

Yea, I need to mark my birds better now that Im hatching bbs and chocs at the same time. Do you know who sell a toe punch cheap?

Curious? Your Lavender/SB on the left has a dark shank and the right has a white shank. All Self Blues in the APA SOP have a dark blue shank. Obviously, the white skin is a good thing. Just wondering what percentage of yours had the dark shanks and the white shanks. The Cuckoos look wonderful!

ETA: All of these look nice!

I've really enjoyed going through this thread ( and the other 2 Orpington threads). I think I'm finally starting to learn something, too ;)

I do have one question. I was on the united Orpington club website, and many of the chickens look to have different carriages. I'm not sure if it's just the angle of the pictures, or what. Some of them seemed to have more of a "U" shape with a kind of lifted tail, and some of them appeared almost straight with a tail that ran almost parallel with the back.

I'm sorry if my terms are off or my perception is wrong. I've only ever shown dogs, and some attributes can vary, but some MUST be only one way. Just trying to figure out which is which for chickens. I did look over the sop a little, but maybe I saw an abridged version, because I didn't see a specific reference to carriage.

Thanks,
Heather

You may be seeing birds of both US and Imported lines. These do have slightly different type. Here is the Best of Breed, Junior at Crossroads Joint National. For an Orpington Bantam, she has very good type.

Best of Breed (Open) large fowl Orpington was a Buff Orpington with very good type.

Reserve of Breed (Open)

What is see in these three pictures is...
The black bantam has a U shaped back and the tail has an upward direction, the BOB buff has a straighter back and the tail seems to point parallel to the floor, the reserve has a U again. Is it the angle of the photo?

I did notice there is a huge difference between the English standard and the US standard. I really like the English standard, but some of them really do look more like a basketball than a chicken ;)

I'm just curious because I have chosen the Orpington as my favorite breed. I tend to get obsessive, so now I feel compelled to know EVERYTHING about it. Luckily, it only took me 8 months to narrow down what I want. It took me 3 years and volunteering with 4 different rescues before I decided on what our second dog would be :p heck, it took me 26 years to find a husband
