It has been awhile since I have had Cochins. They have always been one of my favorite breeds though. I like their calm disposition, along with their compact tails and bulky looking build. With their short feathered legs. It looks like just float above the ground. After not having good luck keeping Silkies. I have decided to get Cochins again. I found breeder that has Partridge. My favorite color. I can’t wait until they hatch.
So exciting!!! I hope it passes quickly for you. Can’t wait to see your cuties 😍

Well I moved my Satin n Silkies down to big brooder inside the run...I thought it would be a good transition for them and the lil cochins to be in new territory all together at same time. But I guess the cochins are just too small still. Coco was fitting right in and not really bothered by Satins and Silkies as much as China. She was pitiful! She came over to where I was sitting and was like begging me to take her out!
I sat and held em both for a while and they slept the entire time. I think they don't feel safe and secure from others to be able to relax and sleep. And China wasn't getting in there to get food like Coco was.
So I brought em back in and put em in the garage and I'll give them another week or so before trying again.
We'll have supervised field trips when out there so hopefully that will work better.
Hoping I don't have to go get the heat plate back out of big brooder though cuz I already had it in there and ready to plug in tonight!
They are little over 2 weeks old. Garage is NOT air-conditioned or anything so pretty dang hot lol.

Awwwwwww, poor lil beans 😭 They’ll be big and ready all too soon! Love that they see you as a safe place 🥺

(I dont have any of the birds below, but when I get them, I will post pictures. Should be getting from a friend within the next few weeks.)

A Blue Cochin Bantam pullet named Pib (Peb) (Pebbles Jr.)

A Blue Cochin Bantam pullet named Squirrel
I edited to make a few changes and add a few pictures. You might (but probably will not) notice that
1. Pebbles is no longer on there
2. Sweet Pea is in the breeding flock
3. The breeding flock is flock 2
4. I am now getting 2 blue pullets from my friend

So here is what happened. Everything was going great. Until a snake broke into the chicks coop and ate Marsh my Red Pyle OEGB pullet, Myrtle my Millie Fleur Duccle pullet, and Pebbles my Blue Cochin Bantam pullet. All pullets. The next day my BB Red OEGB rooster named Chipmunk that was with Sweet Pea went missing. So Sweet Pea was lonely and I only had 2 Blue Cochin Bantams. I decides to add Sweet Pea to the breeding flock and I dont know why I wanted black Cochin Babtams in it in the first place because I have a whole flock of them to steal eggs from. So I told my friend I would take her 2 Blue Cochin Bantam pullets who are the same age as the 2 I have. So my breeding flock will be
Rooster: Blue Cochin Bantam
Hens: Blue Cochin Bantam
Blue Cochin Bantam
Blue Cochin Bantam
Splash Cochin Bantam
Splash Cochin Bantam
Black Cochin Bantam

And I already have the splashes half way integrated with Sweet Pea. They are both scared of her and run if she looks at them wrong, but they do exist in the same enclosure all day. Its just at night that Sweet Pea won't let them sleep with her.

Man it is HOT out there!
Idk how I managed to do so much yesterday from 7am to 2pm!
Tried a field trip with China n Coco and ended up just holding em instead of letting them inside the brooder with 3 week olds.
The d'uccles sit n look at themselves all day long in the mirror and luv to walk on top of the brooder...which spells 💩.
So I saw China n Coco down in the dust bath area and made sure Chatty Cathy and Daisy weren't gonna peck em.
I scraped 💩 off and then I hear this pitiful high pitch cry...China is running just as fast as she can to me from across the run.
End field trip

Hanabi just now deciding whether or not she wants to get back in my lap. She decided not to and went on her way.🤣
