I've learned this from BYC membersHow early they pop their combs definitely depends on the line in my experience. My Reds, for example, were super obvious by 3 weeks old (they were also the ones that liked to crow when they were like 4 days old--yes, days), while some of my BBSs have kept me guessing until 6 or 7 weeks. My current batch is just over 7 weeks and I've only just become confident in their sexes. Either way, definitely way easier to tell than with Silkies and Silkie mixes!
Can you elaborate on this technique? I've never heard of it, but would love to learn more!
In females, the area beloe the comb comes in a more delicate “V” shape, where the male has a wider “U” shape. This is typically visible at an early age in Satins and Silkies. So wasn't sure if it applied to other breeds or not.
