My sister just bought me some bantam cochin hatching eggs for my b-day! They are supposed to come August 1st - August 6th. I'm so excited!
We also have 3 frizzled and one non-frizzled bantam cochin chicks right now but they are not super friendly.
Awe! Congratulations!
How old are the 3 you have?
Keep working with them!!!

What an awesome present!! Nice job sis 🎉

Oh did I already ask yall...if so forgive me!
Can u tell sex with bantam cochins similarly to the silkies? I tend to go by behavior and the u vs v on their beak just below the comb area during first few weeks. I've been pretty good thus far with my Satin and Silkies using that method.
Wasn't sure if that works for lil Cochins or not.

Cochins are MUCH easier to sex than Silkies/Satins. The male single comb is usually obvious by 6-8 weeks.😊

I can usually tell my hens from roos at like two or three weeks! They just look different. And some of my blue roos were crowing at a week old!

How early they pop their combs definitely depends on the line in my experience. My Reds, for example, were super obvious by 3 weeks old (they were also the ones that liked to crow when they were like 4 days old--yes, days), while some of my BBSs have kept me guessing until 6 or 7 weeks. My current batch is just over 7 weeks and I've only just become confident in their sexes. Either way, definitely way easier to tell than with Silkies and Silkie mixes! 🤭

Can you elaborate on this technique? I've never heard of it, but would love to learn more!
