My Dominique lays more of a tan than brown, though I guess that could be generically called ‘brown’.Dominiques are beautiful brown egg layers and at 5 pounds at the same weight as blue rgg layers.

Yeah, they would need to consider dark brown vs brown layer too within their size preference. As well as availability & price...I paid considerably more for my dark brown layer chicks. Worth it to me but depends on your budget. My Dominique lays more of a tan than brown, though I guess that could be generically called ‘brown’.
I just noticed my pictures are all out of sequence, lolLeft to right-
OE, Prue (Marans mix) from MPC
Light Braham, Maribel from McMurray
Welsummer, Piper from MPC
WTB, Betty from McMurray
Blue orp, Phoebe from MPC
Prue and Maribel lay very large eggs, Betty (top producer, 6wk) and Piper are large, and Phoebe lays bullets, lol

And darker brown layers don’t lay as often too. For some, that’s an important consideration. I love the dark brown eggs, and plan to get some in the future. My Marans is just hatchery quality, so her eggs are darker brown but my ISA Browns sometimes lay almost as dark a shade as hers. The ISA Browns recently started laying, and the Marans egg color varies quite a bit in shade.Yeah, they would need to consider dark brown vs brown layer too within their size preference.
