When I was in middle school and a larger kid stepped in to defend me I thought that was being very nice at the moment.

Congratulations, then. Jamey's still dead, but the debate has been won. Some people truly amaze me.

You really think I don't care about that kid? It was really sad what happend to him.

Let me ask you this one simple question. Has this become a quest because the young boy was bullied and killed himself, or because he proclaimed himself to be gay, and killed himself?

Bullying has been going on, in one form or another, since the beginning of time. Forcing anyone to do something they'd rather not do, like work hard or go into battle, by use of an authority figure, could be considered bullying, by today's standard. Thus, we end up with a society of young hoodlums, who themselves, end up as bullies, against a society which does not let them have their way.

I just saw a video of some union oganizer for SEIU demanding that they shut down streets and disrupt the flow of everyday commerce, just to get their way....Is that bullying or do you agree with it, simply because it is supposedly progressive thinking?

He wasn't bullied for not working hard or not going into battle. He was bullied because he was different. It wasn't a matter of feeling forced to do something he didn't want to do. It was a matter of feeling forced to be something he isn't. I can think of another form of bullying that had gone on in history -- the Inquisition. Do we just excuse that as well?

I don't know the situation enough to comment on it, but one act of protest is not the same as continual, daily harassment of a child. That you (and others) keep trying to make these associations leads me to believe that a part of you doesn't think there was anything wrong with what this kid endured. If this is the case, I really have no interest in furthering this topic.

I think you are assuming something AquaEyes. Nobody has said that bullying is ok.

And was this comment from AquaEyes-He wasn't bullied for not working hard or not going into battle. He was bullied because he was different. I am guessing that people who are looking for excuses for bullying behavior and blaming the victim are the "macho man" or "popular girl" types who have either never been bullied in their lives or are trying to find some excuses for their own behavior...which is why this will be my last post in this thread. I applaud you for trying to further the issue, AE, but I don't see too many people who ever mature out of the bullying behavior.

Bullying is bullying, whether it's child on child, adult on child, boss on worker, cops on homeless, or unions on society....Now, why did you pick this one specific case to make your case? People through the ages, have taken their lives, because things weren't going their way.

It is unfortunate that when the bullying can not(or will not) be stopped that parents do not step in and remove their child from the situation. Why not move on? I gave up on my ds's school and we moved him to a new one.Sure their was issues with other kids(at the new place),but THIS TIME it was dealt with.

Whether it is classroom, school,or even moving somewhere new.... it is worth it to make the change.

I know some feel that is running away or giving in.So what. Rather live a happy life than be miserable each day thanks to a bully. I would rather run away with my child and start a new life somewhere else than visit their grave following a bullycide.

School bullies grow up and become the mean co-workers or the neighbors from hell. Some choose to put up with it,but boy are they miserable everyday they are exposed to those *people*.
