The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

Thoughts on my bun, false pregnancy? I bred her on Feb 27th so today is day 34. She's 11 months old, has had a litter before, good mum. Dad was a 6 mo first attempt at breeding. Both lionheads. She exhibited all the mood changes after breeding, hunkering and not wanting interaction. About a week and a half ago (~25 days in) she made a nest of hay. Seemed chubby but not huge when handled. She started shedding loose hairs all over the cage in the last few days, and has been drinking twice as much water as normal in the last week. She is not pulling fur, just shedding, and has resumed her normal curious personality. Thinking false pregnancy, but the water intake had me concerned? She has been a lot more active this week though and I saw her at least once step in the water bowl while tossing around an apple stick so maybe she's just spilling a ton, it just seemed odd timing wise. Thoughts?

What the heck
Who gets a rabbit just to decide to get a dog instead????
I don't get it 🤣

This is the description I saw on CL for a 9 week old rabbit. That means they had it at 6 weeks :th

wow. Just wow. Also health issues? Rehoming fee? You wonder if its an April Fools joke. Poor bunny!

I know, I feel so bad.

There are lots of awful ads of CL. Lots of scams and lots of people rehoming animals because they have no idea what they're doing. And of course theres the people selling them to people making rash decisions.

Soon there will be tons of ads from people rehoming Easter bunnies :(

Wow, that's crazy. The one sad side of Easter time for me is being aware of the fact that SO many bunnies get bought only to be released or gotten rid of when people realize it takes a little more commitment to own and care for them. Two out of three of my pet rabbits I have owned are, I believe, rabbits that got dumped as pets/gifts for Easter. One I know for certain was, the other I'm not sure about since he was older, like 1-2yos when we got him. Maybe age doesn't matter, I dunno.

That's what saddened me about seeing some rabbits at the shelter near here around this time: I wonder if they'll get adopted by someone irresponsible. I especially worried for the Harlies there because I know they're a big rabbit breed, they can get up to 8-9lbs, and they were listed as dwarf/standard/mix rabbits, since sadly a lot of shelter people don't know about rabbits. But dwarf?? Just because the rabbit is a few months old doesn't mean it'll always be small!!

Sorry about a rant, lol. I hope you all have a good Easter!

I know I'm posting again, lol, but I wanted to ask around on here about cleaning a rabbit's ears.

So this morning it was kind of odd because my rabbit Lion kept laying back one of his ears, even though the other one would be perked up at times. He's never had a floppy ear. I took him out and felt it and looked it over, it was a little warmer than the other one (it was chilly this morning, about 60 degrees or so), it was warm even though the other one was a little cold. Well, an hour or so later I came back out and he wasn't doing that with his ear anymore and both felt the same temperature, but when I looked in it and the other one I noticed some wax build up.

I've done some research about cleaning rabbits ears, and it looks like I could take a cotton ball or a q tip and very very gently wipe out the inside of his ear after massaging in some warm water.... most videos I saw were from vets with a cleaning solution although I don't think I would really need one. I may wanna use a q tip because it is a bit farther down and I'd like to actually get it out...although I know I need to be super careful.

Does anyone know if this is a good idea or a bad one to try on Lion? I just worry that this might cause problems for him...he's had an ear infection before and it nearly did him in, so I'd hate to ignore this and let him get another if he can't clean it out himself. I read ear wax build up can lead to infections.

From my research some people say never do this, or only clean the outside of the ear....but it's in the canal, not the outside of the ear. Others seem to go a bit deeper and/or encourage regular ear cleanings.

Any opinions before I do anything with him?

My doe Amelia had her babies today, 6 healthy kits (and one stillborn 😞). It's her first time, so I'm surprised about the amount of kits

I've talked about her before on this thread, but here's my little Holland lop girl Amelia!
