The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

I reached a point where I need to tell the male and female apart so I put the correct rabbit in the correct home but it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I hate doing this to young rabbits. Not sure if any of you guys have ever did the check on young rabbits but its a bit invasive and I hate doing it. The other 2 Rabbits I bought the person who sold them to me told me which one was which and I kept track, with these two I looked under and there were no signs to indicate which was which externally which means they are still too young to tell.
I sexed all my rabbits by myself. It is no different to me than sexing a chicken chick or sexing a quail.

I've been reading your posts and I'm glad you're taking this little guy in! :) I hope you have fun with your rabbit and I'm glad to see you are getting great help here.

Poor guy, though. Hopefully he's just dirty and needs some good cleaning. Unless you've researched this (then sorry!), you could probably spot-treat his fur with water to clean it (only if it's really bad though) and be sure to give him a good groom. It'll also help you be able to look him over, too, even if you are gonna bring him to the vet. My one rabbit gets pee stains on her fur for some reason (lol she's just messy I guess, her cage is very clean) so I often trim the dirty fur with scissors. It may help you to trim off any dirty fur, just don't trim too much and don't really do his paws since you don't want to cut down the padding on his feet.

Hopefully he doesn't have any sore hocks; wire should be fine so long as it is the right size and they are given mats to take a break from it. Dunno what his condition is though. I have a lionhead so I know how furry they are; combined with an angora he should have thick fur so hopefully no sore socks!

I have done it before too, I just do not like doing it, it just seems wrong. I sexed the rabbits because I needed to find out which was which. In the process I found the new rabbits had fur missing from their hocks, potential sore hocks. Common with this breed and the guy I bought them from might not have had the best cage floor. I wanted to keep the male in a cage and I still can but I am going to have to put in a different type of floor
