The Butterfly Effect Hobby Farm

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I will say that I got frustrated a bit with the tree removal. The crew was very friendly and did a great job, it was just that they had intimated that there would be a huge crew and it would be basically a one day job. Needless to say only 3 guys were there (again all capable and did a great job), but it took 3 days instead of 1. I had only requested one day off from work, so I didn't get to watch the entire process.:barnie Then on Friday we had to leave straight from work to head 4 1/2 hours away to celebrate the 80th birthday of a family member :ya. So all weekend I kept wondering how it all came out.

It was a shock to say the least when it was all done. Right now everything looks like a mess. The yard is pretty trashed which makes sense. The big grey shed is going to be moved soon. It makes no sense where it is and it will get moved to a place that makes much better sense in the next week or two.

The "before" and "after" pictures are fun to see...what a difference!

Yes, but N F C, all I can tell you is the moment I saw the trees down, it just brought to light all sorts of things I need to change. I have never changed "the bones" of a yard before like this... Once you remove such a huge thing... all the minor things now seem major:barnie

All three sheds and their arbitrary placements were never something I was a big fan of, but now that both tree walls are down... they seem all the more ridiculous in placement. That's going to change this spring/summer.

It's amazing how much sky we can see at night. One of my favorite things is to go out at night and walk around and look at the stars. Now we can see 33% more sky:ya

Can't wait to get some big piles of compost delivered (down the road we will be making our own compost but for now will have to order several trucks worth.

Priority is moving the Big Grey Shed as that will allow us to build the trellis and plant the rest of the grape vines. Can't wait for that. That first grape vine is simply the gateway to my grapevine addiction:lau

I guess it's sort of like putting up new curtains in the living room. Then you figure the walls need a fresh coat of paint. And then the carpet looks worn. Ugh, and now the couch looks old. :lau

Being able to see the stars at night is fabulous! Our old place in FL had so many live oaks we could barely see the night sky. Let me tell ya, all those stars that were hidden in Florida must have been hanging out up here in Wyoming! Love to see them.

Looking forward to watching all your progress!

Well I have a guy out today and he is chewing up all the stumps. So my hope is I get to see a relatively clean slate when I get home.

I got confirmation he was there and working in a strange way... A guy I had worked out to deliver 12 yards of compost confirmed he was there working . So now I have the compost to fill the .... oh yah... gotta build the raised garden beds. If the weather is nice you know what I will be doing for the next couple of weeks.

I haven't updated or really been on lately. The constant rain for the past 2 weeks has really gotten to me a bit. (Just frustrated that I can't be outside and doing stuff, hating to idle). The SO was looking through her pics (she is more of the photo person than I am). She found these two pics. The first one is dated March 2018 and it shows when I started cutting down trees. Mind you I was simply trying to thin out over crowding and getting rid of the weak ones. We started stacking them in a burn circle that had been there before we moved in. (we got the keys to the houses March 1st, 2018) so apparently I went right at it outside, even while we got busy on working on the inside of the house. The burn circle is 30' in diameter for reference.
