Hmmm...Is there anything your husband does that you don't? Like, does he love on him like you and Katie, or is he more stand-offish with him? How old is Pigpen?
He talks to him and pets him but doesn't "rock him to sleep" lol like me and Katie. We tend to coddle him a bit. Danny just treats him like one of the cats. And he is almost 4 months old. We got him the middle of March and he was a couple of weeks old then.

Quote: Welcome to the dreaded 4 month phase - when all the rooster's hormones kick in. ;) He's all grumpy and messed up and wants to be above you. If he does it, kick him away. Enough to show him who's boss. You don't have to hurt him, just a, "Watch your boundries mister!" My roo-boy started early. (8 weeks) I pushed him around just a little, and he is now perfectly behaved. The reason he does it to you and Katie, is because you are, "Preening" him, what other submissive hens would do. He is pecking you saying, "hey girl! Scratch my back!" Your husband doesn't so much, so Pigpen thinks. "Oh, ok, I'm below him." Not saying you have to stop petting him and rocking him to sleep. Just make sure he doesn't bully you around.

Good - gonna go plant the garden soon. We usually get it in a month or so before now, but it has been so WET!

You all are very helpful to me in this chicken experience and I thank everyone for all the input and advice. I have learned a lot! Now I have a problem. Pigpen is ATTACKING me and Katie's feet. At first I thought it was what chicken crazy said about our toenail polish. But even when we have shoes on he goes for our legs. Not with his feet but his beak. And it hurts. It's only when we walk. If we sit he's fine. But he will grab ahold and twist and I literally have to grab his beak and pull him off. Then he walks of "mumbling" under his breath. The head thump don't work any more. And he don't do it to my husband

other than that he's still the same as far as sitting on our laps and plucking at our hair and sleeping with his head on our shoulder etc... Any ideas?
That is so weird!!! I have never had that happen, so I dunno what to do. My friend once had a hen who got really aggressive, and she would attack your feet. She had to 're-tame' her by feeding her out of her hand. Try not to be very loud around Pigpen, speaking quietly and not very fast actions. Maybe he feels challenged? Also, he's a rooster right? Roosters can get aggressive....
