Hi i am new here. This is the story of the chick named Bossie. It started in April when I picked my order of 5 chicks up at Farm and fleet, my order was 5 Barred Rocks and i added 3 easter eggers to the mix because everyone i talked to about chicks said i will loose a couple and i wanted a flock of around 5. All 8 are doing well. The order was all pullets but from day 1 i thought that white chick looks like a rooster to me. As time went on the little white chick controlled the brooder and let the others no it was in charge. Fast forward to now which they are 13 weeks old and he is still in charge, he is very protective of the girls. What i find so amazing is watching him tell the girls when its time to go in the coop, they will start going in but if 1 or 2 fail to follow his command he will chase them a bit until they go in and then he follows them. I hope he turns out to be a good boy as i am thinking of what the chicks might look like with him crossed with a Barred Rock. Here are a few pics of him from a couple days old to now.

His behavior certainly points to him being a cockerel. Others will be able to better than I can from the photo if he's a cockerel, and you should be able to tell by now. One thing that will cinch it is if he has curved sickle feathers just beginning to emerge from his tail feathers.

Sad to say I had to cull Bossie, I don't know why he acted like he did to one pullet but a month ago today I see him standing on the pullet and pecking her head, seen him do it twice that morning. A little while later I see her still stuck in the corner of the run not moving and at that point went to check on her to find her alive but her head badly swollen and blood coming out one nostril. At that point I new he had to go. It was sad because he was so good with the other pullets but I got the chickens for eggs not to hatch chicks. Bossie knew his name and when you would say hi Bossie he would flap his wings and crow , he has sure been missed. Here is the last pic of Bossie and the pullet he dis-liked.
