The Cluck 'n Quack: Stories of our birds

CRITTER UPDATE (part 2):

Ducks (and goose):
The OG girls, Splotch and Cumin have molted recently and are doing very well. Hale and hearty as always, with many a loud and obnoxious quack to offer!
The babies from this spring are SO BIG!! They're pretty much adults now. Lily and Alex are beautiful hens, while Hank and Mac are the sweetest and handsomest drakes alive! They're just starting to grow in their curly tail feathers. :love

And of course, no waterfowl update would be complete without GOOSIE. 🥰 Madison's still learning to live with her disability, but I dare say she's doing quite well! She's been growing a lot too, and now has all her flight feathers in. So when she wants to go fast to catch up with the duckies or come running to me for treats, she pushes off with her good foot and half-flies across the yard, going quite quickly.

CRITTER UPDATE (part 1):

Cats:
When our younger ducks were growing up, Tommy boy apparently decided that taking up duck hunting would be a fun hobby. He killed Shaw and possibly Brownie. As this was of course, unacceptable behavior, we had to re-home him. We sold him to somebody who has him for a mouser now. He's an indoor/outdoor cat, and gets plenty of luxurious treatment at his new home. I'm sure he's happy.

Now as for Timmy, he's a good boy, and knows not to bother ANY of the poultry. He's been living a good life. Getting lots of love and attention from us, going out and hunting whenever he pleases, and just being a fun little guy to have around. He's over two years old now!

CRITTER UPDATE (Part 3):

Chickens:
Henny and Penny have been doing well. Laying eggs regularly and doing chicken things, they're just living life.
Lucy's been doing good too! She's over five months old now but still has not laid her first egg yet. I wonder when she will. She's getting so big and round and fluffy! Still my adorable sweet little girl. 🥰
For those of y'all that don't know, I got baby chicks this past July! Their names are Alpha, Omega, Delta, and Sigma. Alpha and Omega are Blue Stars and Delta and Sigma are Easter Eggers. Anyway, they're approaching three months of age now so I integrated them with the big girls! It's been a little tough, cause basically everybody picks on them, but they've been doing all right. I've got pics of them I'll post later.

NEWS FLASH:

So I was out at my friends' house the other day (they have some chickens) and they asked me if I would like to take their four oldest hens since apparently they didn't have any use for them anymore. I asked dad and he said yes!! So last night we took the new girls home. I've yet to see fully how integration will go but- Henny (she's used to being a bully) tried to pick on one of the Barred Rocks and promptly got her butt kicked 😂 so it looks like a new sheriff's in town. Lol.
The breeds are:
1 Speckled Sussex
1 Columbian Wyandotte
2 Barred Plymouth Rocks (I think one may actually be a Cuckoo Marans)
