The Cluck 'n Quack: Stories of our birds

Woah, that was startling. A Cooper's Hawk almost got himself a chicken. Thank goodness for the thick brush under the Junipers we have in the yard. It was a smaller hawk, so I don't think it could've hurt one of the big girls, but it could've taken a youngster. I scared it off and I hope it stays away.

Hey guys!

I'm so sorry that I've let this thread fall behind and haven't updated as much as I should.

All the animals are doing well! We haven't lost any to predators in a good while. I hope we keep it that way.

Something interesting DID happen recently though...

My little Lucy laid her first egg last Thursday!! It was small and round and adorable. 🥰 The same color as our BSL, a nice light brown. You should've heard her blast out the egg song afterwards, it was the best :lau:gig

She's laid quite a few since then. Quite the grown-up little lady!

I swear the babies are bigger and beautifuller every time I step outside. I'll try to post some update photos soon!

Unfortunately, we lost the three older girls. I'm not going into detail, but I'm just going to say they're not with us anymore. A little sad, but learned a valuable lesson.

Anyway.

Henny has started molting pretty hard since Penny's finished hers. Poor girl looks kinda scraggly right now.

Something interesting about the Blue Star babies- As younger chicks all the way up to now, the skin on their faces was black. All the way.
Now it's slowly, kinda patchily turning a bright red, which I find very interesting. I'll see if I can get some photos of Alpha, I've got some of Omega that I still need to download.
