The cost of desserts - I am SHOCKED!

Between my Gma and me, and a few close friends we did everything for our wedding ourselves. Our wedding had over 200 people and a full sit down meal, w/ wedding cake and 3 sets of male/female attendants and a flowergirl / ring bearer set.

My Gma baked the cake, I decorated and stacked it. My Gma and I made almost all the food and stored it in friends refrigerators and freezers until the wedding day, our friends helped heat everything in the full kitchen attatched to the reception area, food was served family style on all the tables. A couple of months prior to the wedding I had eaten at a restaurant that had pretty place settings including folded napkins, the waitress taught me how to fold the napkins and I recreated the fancy settings for the reception myself (all 200+) I sewed my wedding dress (and designed it) as well as a couple of the bridesmaids dresses who didn't sew. I bought both fresh and silk flowers single stems and a good friend arranged my simple bouquets and boutineers. A good friend of my husband who was trying to get into photography did our wedding pics.

So our wedding w/ over 200 guests and full meal w/ reception cost less then $2000 for invitiations, flowers, place, dress (mine and brides maids) food, cake, etc.... the whole shabang.

And I would not pay $50 for a cheesecake, however I would sell anyone who would like an awesome home made cheesecake for $50!

I wouldn't pay $50 for a dessert.

Where I worked before there were two ladies that always talked about how great the cheesecakes were from cheesecake factory and how they go there every year for their desserts for the holidays because no place else could make them that good.

Well me being the nice co-worker I am I brought in three homemade cheesecakes for them to "try". One was a maple pumpkin with pecan glaze, one was a turtle one with chocolate, caramel, nuts, etc., and the last one was a chocolate peanut butter. For three years after that I was making cheesecakes for everyone. They paid me $20 a cake and all I wanted was the cost of ingrediants. So much for them loving cheesecake factory.

I'd you don't mind sharing it, I'd love the recipe for the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake. I've made pumpkin and a turtle pecan. I make a really good chocolate cheesecake with Godiva liqueur in it.

I love baking cheesecakes, but only bake them when I have somewhere to take them. Cheesecake is my absolute favorite dessert and my DH and kids don't like cheesecake - so I'd be eating the darn thing all by myself , which just isn't good for the waistline.

I got married at the drive up wedding window in vegas. Planned and everything. Thought it would be a better story and it sure was! Cost was less than $200 including everything. And we're still married 18 years later. My husband is a huge cheesecake fan and isn't even all that fond of CF cheesecake, but he LOVES the costco ones. So no $50 cheesecakes here either - and yes, I COULD afford it, I choose not to. $20, sure.

I can't believe how much some things cost right now, either! I don't know who'd pay $50 for a cheesecake. Like you, I make most of my own stuff for this reason. Holy cow!

Yeah, thanks to this thread that's all I've been thinking about so I had to check out cheese cakes when I was at Cost Co today. Pretty good sized cheese cake, plain was $12 and cents, strawberry topped was less then $15.00. Now that's more like it!

It's all up to the individual. I don't like any store bought, restaurant, pre-packaged cakes, goodies, cheeseake.

But that is my taste buds.

But I am sure their are people that think we are nuts buying hatching eggs in the mail.

And spending lots of money on them to get a decent trio of what you want.

If it's something I want, I will enjoy and I can afford it, I will buy it. I am only going to live once.

Now I wont spend over $20.00 for a purse

, not into fashion. But

that's a different story.

PS.... I can bake, but some folks cant.
