The cost of desserts - I am SHOCKED!

I love the Costco cheesecakes- I think they are about $20 if memory serves.

I have been to the Cheesecake Factory before in another state. Very good cheesecakes, but I only bought them by the slice after a meal.

I really like the "cheesecake filling" flavored cream cheese containers at the grocery store. Have you tried those Happy Chooks? Yum.

I only have a problem if someone is spending MY $50 on a cake. What they do with their cash is their business..... Do I have an opinion? Sure! but hey, like my cash...it's my own.....

Note to self: the real message of this thread....lots of folks here sound like really good cooks and some bake well too....

1) must quietly collect addresses and find out what time meals are served
2) quit work, uproot family and buy an RV
3) build coop for the RV - can't leave chickens behind
4) don't let any of these folks know my secret plan.....

Nope, haven't tried them. I make all my stuff from scratch. Haven't bought a boxed cake, muffin, brownie, etc mix in about 20-25 YEARS.

I can remember fabulous meals that I ate years ago. I can close my eyes right now and "taste" them.

It all depends on your perspective. I enjoy cooking and baking, and when I've had dinner parties, the appeal for me was in presenting food I made myself. There have been other times when I've been invited to someone else's dinner party, and I found myself instead buying a dessert to bring. Sometimes it's because I didn't have the time, and sometimes it was because I knew that the host had a particular favorite dessert that I wanted to buy and bring.

For me, sometimes it is cheaper to buy a dessert than to make one. I'll explain.

I'm a full time student. I also work between 3 and 5 nights a week at a restaurant. On weekdays I work, I leave my house at 7:15am for school, and come home with just enough time to get changed and ready for work, then out the door again. I get home usually around midnight.

If I was invited to a dinner party on Sunday, I would have to forsake studying time or take a night off from work in order to bake a cheesecake the day before (keeping in mind that it'd need to set in the fridge for 8 hours before being served). If I take Saturday night off, I'm missing out on about $200 - $300 of income. My school works out to cost about $75-$100 per class over the course of the semester (depending on if it meets two or three times a week), so missing a class is like wasting money already spent on tuition for that day. In my case, it IS cheaper to buy the cake than to take time away from school or work in order to make one.

So that's my situation, and the choice I would make. But I wouldn't then extend my situation and choice to say that anyone who does differently is ridiculous, or doing something that is ridiculous....because their situations and choices are different.

They look just like cream cheese in the refrigerated section- in a cream cheese container.

(They are not boxed.)

I love German Chocolate cake!!!!
