the cream gene

Thanks. The hen is a blue millie and I'm not liking the blue gene anymore.
Also, what do you think this guy has in him? I got him from Jerry. He sent me two beautiful roos.
I'm leaning toward dun, because ALL his grey feathers are tanish and his undercoat is gray/tan. Also possibly Igig?

No, not that "chicken sutra" issue... ;)

The reason that buff hen over millefleur rooster doesn't give any millefleur in the calculator is:
1. You never get any millefleur in the first generation even with the reciproke cross.
2. Backcrossing a son to the buff mother would also never give any millefleur for the same reasons that the first generation didn't bring any.
3. Backcrossing a son to a millefleur mother is an entire different story.

your telling Heck about Terminology?...your preaching to the choir
Yeah I know, just thought that was what he was pointing out in his question.

I don't know much about genetics until I do a certain cross then I begin see see what the outcomes is.

I've played around with that calulator but it is really beyond my understanding. It is fun though and I can kind of see what the outcome of certain crooses would be.

has a dun and cream look to him. It's dun or blue. hard to see it well on my screen.

and what they were saying basically is the mottled gene in millies is recessive. Both parents have to have a copy of it for it to be visible in the offspring.

first cross would be splits. birds with a single copy but this doesnt make it visible.

you would then have to back cross ( breed the chicks together) or cross back to the mottled birds. then you will be getting some mottled again, but not all. The ratios vary depending on which route you go.

Henk69, by the way, IS the one who made the calculators you are talking about incase you werent sure.

So you would be crossing him to the wildtype hen to see if her feathers are diluted?

Also, is wildtype a sex linked thing? I hatched a serama chick whose feathers are coming in wildtype, so I'm wondering if this is an indication that she's a she?
