"The day my world turned upside down" story

Silence. Not a sound. The rabbit stood on the ground, nimbling the grass, its ears up, listening for any movement. I lay still, watching it, waiting for the right moment. I waited until it turned its back, then.... I sprang forward and the chase was on!! I could hear my heart pounding and my ears flapping in the wind. The rabbit tore off across the bright, green meadow kicking dirt in my face. Keeping my eyes locked on the rabbit, I ran faster and faster. I was gaining on it... I could almost reach it's feet.... "OOOOOOFF, OUCH, ACH!" I yelped as I tumbled head over paw when I tripped over a cut down trees stump. Tossing, landing, flipping.... finally I landed in a stream with a splash. I stood up and shook myself angrily and growled as I saw the rabbit hopping away, and I could of swore he was prancing and kicking his feet up in the air to taunt me! "Stupid rabbit!!" I snarled and then grabbed a stick and broke it in half with my teeth in anger. Suddenly another rustle came from the brush beside me several feet away. I kneeled down and watced quietly. I saw black and orange, and immediately I knew it was a black squirrel and maybe a gold rabbit, so I edged forward and braced to jump. Faces appeared and before I could stop, I jumped and tackled the faces.... without realizing it was Rio and Carrot!

"BBBAWWWWKKK!!! GET OFFFF OF ME!!!!" Rio screeched into my ear as I landed on top of him. I jumped off, in a panic, not realizing who it was and ran away yelping. "HEY! STOP!" Carrot crowed as he flew infront of me, making me tear to a stop. Breathing heavy, I stared at him for a moment before it clicked in my head. I bounced around, barking happily until Rio crowed, "Ok, quiet down!!!" Wagging my tail, I sat on the ground and looked at him respectfully. "Now before you ask a MILLION questions.... here's what happened. I jumped up a tree when the mountain lion was chasing me, but I soon realized cats could climb trees as well. I flew from tree to tree, pursued by the cat from the ground until we came to a river. I flew across, hoping she wouldn't follow me. Sure enough, she didn't. Guess she figured I wasn't worth getting wet over! Soon I met up with Carrot, who was also following you. And that, my friend, is how we came to be here." I licked his beak, then said "I love you guys!" They clucked approvingly, then suggested we head back to my family. "Buddy, Gracie, Fido and Hope are all worried about you." Carrot told me. My tail drooped. I wasn't sure if I was worried about them. My parents and Fido had both pushed me away.... sent me out to fend for myself! Hope and the 2 roosters would soon probably do the same. When we met up with them, my parents would continue to growl and ignore me probably. Why should I go back? They pushed me away, and now I know how to hunt and defend myself, why do I need them? They don't deserve me after what they did! "Rio, Carrot.... I'm not going back to them." I said sternly.
