My ears perked, my eyes studied every bush that moved. The howls came again, closer this time. Theyll kill my owner. Theyll kill the chick with one bite. Theyll kill Goldie and Fido. I dont care if they kill me. I just want my friends to be okay
I dont matter. Im just a dog. A useless dog. If they attack us, Ill fight till my innards come flowing out of me. I thought to myself. I started to trot, and Fido did too. The sled hit bumps that made loud crunching noises. We have to stop. If we hide until they come, we will make a surprise attack. On the road, we are vulnerable. I said to my friends. So we pulled over to a bush covered in a snow. I dug a cave and dragged the sled in. It soon became warm in there from all the body heat. Me, Fido and Goldie waited. We waited in the bush, ears perked, eyes scanning everything, not moving a muscle. Then
. They were there. It seemed as if they had magically appeared. 9

12 of them. Most were underweight
a poor excuse for a coyote. Others had fur and muscles, and teeth that hung out of their mouths. One had a scar that crossed right over his left eye. They spread throughtout the road, 4 on the left side, 4 on the right and 4 in the middle. They were approaching our bush. Surely they would smell us. I looked at Fido and Goldie with eyes that said I love you, I wish you luck in this battle. They nodded their heads and slowly
we approached the coyotes. I gave the signal
. I growled. All at once, all 3 of us jumped out at the nearest coyote and tackled him. Goldie sorta was like a distraction, running here and there, squawking. Me and Fido fought. The first 2 coyotes died quickly because of our surprise attack, but there was 10 left. I tackled one and bit his neck, when one coyote started gnawing on my back. I looked over and saw Fido pinned to the ground by 3 coyotes, his ears torn off and his back being ripped up. I had know idea I looked like him as well. Memorys came back from when hatred filled my eyes when I saw Jimmy and Mark. The same hatred filled my entire body and gave me a new strength. I pushed the coyote off my back and darted over to save Fido, but all at once, a coyote barked Freeze! I looked at the coyote who had said that
. And he had Goldie clamped between his jaws.
