"The day my world turned upside down" story

"Easy friend... I come in peace." A black lab said. He was alone, and wagged his tail. "Do... do, you live here?" I asked nervously, trying to act serious. "Nope. Passing through. Heard ya'll talking to yourself, and thought I could help you find you're family." He chuckled. I slowly approached him and sniffed his back. "Uh, sure. My names Tucker, by the way." I woofed. "So, any idea where your family is?" He asked. I told him everything, while he sat and listened intently, his ears up. "Well well well.. seems your family is just over those hills." He said and pointed his nose towards a pair of green, grassy hills. "Beyond there is some woods, where it sounds your family is, by your landmarks you mentioned. Lets go! By the way, I'm Shadow." I followed him out of the park and started to feel safe around him as he led me through quiet alleys and safe streetsm towards the hills. Suddenly I spotted animal control parked along a road and the man in the drivers seat saw us. "Run!" I barked and tore off towards the hills. I heard the black lab following me, but suddenly I heard a yelp. I jumped around and saw a loop around the black dogs neck as he struggled to get away from the man in the white uniform. "Shadow!" I howled as he was tugged into the van and locked in a cage. "Go to your family, Tucker!" I heard him bark as the door slammed. "No!" I barked as the truck drove away with a roar. Determined, I charged after it.

I ran along the sidewalk desperately, barking to the truck. "Shadow! Can you hear me?!" I heard no reply. The truck started to slow down as it turned right into a parking lot. I hid behind a red car and watched as the man unloaded Shadow, grabbed the noose that still was around his neck and dragging his through the door. I followed quietly and slipped in the door after him. I waited as he opened the door which led to the kennels, then trotted after him through the empty waiting room. Dogs barks and howls deafened me, making my ears tuck. I remembered this place. The pound. The place where unwanted animals went. And sometimes... where they never came out of. I watched as the man locked Shadows cage and walked into a office at the end of the hallway. "Sssh. Please." I whimpered to the dogs; a few listened, but the others either ignored my plea, or couldn't hear me over the barking. "Shadow, i'm busting you outta here!" I whimpered urgently. "Get out of here before they catch you!" He growled, but I saw a thankful look in his eyes that kept me going to help. I grabbed ahold of the lock and pulled. It wouldn't open! Puzzled, I stared at it, but still didn't understand how to open it. "My dad would know how to do this..." I mumbled to myself. A idea popped into my head. "Shadow, I don't know how to open this cage. Your only hope is if I go and find my Dad and take him here; he'll know how to open it. I might not come back in time, but I have to try." I said to him. "You got 2 weeks.... before something really bad will happen to me." He said worriedly. I nodded my head. "Goodluck, and thank you." He said gratefully and licked my nose through the bars. "Hey! What are you doing in here?!" A man yelled as he spotted me, then started running down the hall towards me, a noose in his hand.
