Tell DH to cut the umbilical already!!
I'm 26, married, two kids with my own home, cars etc. I would be SO ashamed if we had to ask for money. Well one time, I didn't ask for money but I had a tooth that had gone sour and was on the couch almost puking in pain. I didn't have the money at the time for the root canal and was trying to save for it. I was just DH's girlfriend at the time, and we were living with his parents. DH's dad saw me on the couch and took me promptly to the dentist to have my tooth fixed. After the pain had subsidded I swore I'd pay him back. And I did! It was only an extra 100 bucks a month added to our rent, but I did it.
I went to school while pregnant with DS #1, and finished my Assoc. degree and had DS #2 a month later! Landed a job 8 months pregnant (also landed a job 7 months pregnant with DS #1) with DS#2 because I was motivated. I am now going back to school to get my BA degree, it's online so I can do it at work/off time so I am not giving up time with my kids. Yes, I don't get to be home with my kids everyday. That sucks, but growing up both my parents worked. I am not less attached to them because of it.
I started working when I was 14, bagging groceries. Worked everyday of my life since, cept when we got unemployed.
Point being, there is a way, she needs to have the will. Tell DH not giving her school money isn't going to shut out that option, she can still go. She needs to figure it out herself.
