The Duck Thread

Your feed store should carry some antibiotic like Penicillin and [Tetracycline] maybe under a different name so read labels,If the infection is in the joint it most likely will not be resolved by it self. But maybe @casportpony can give some advise i like to refer to her when it is about antibiotics and what is best to use, yes he may have hurt his knee when he was limping just hard to say.

This may help

Here's an updated picture of my Donald's foot from last night. Monday I got home too late to do anything but my DH soaked it in epsom salt and rewrapped it. Last night I pulled a few tiny pieces off but nothing significant and tried squeezing it.

His foot and ankle don't seem swollen any more but his knee is definitely still swollen.
Looking better!

hey all, I have a 15x6 foot pond that's 2 feet at the deepest point for my ducks and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to keep it from turning green, like an arrator or a fountain of some kind. thanks.
We just recently re dug our pond hoping that making it deeper the muck won't stay stirred up all the time. We had a fountain but it didn't help. I'm planting submerged oxygenating plants. We just started refilling last night. We plan on using a biofilter. Check these out

This is the original pond that we re-dug and just filled last night. It has a new second section to the right that the water will flow down into. I'm not sure what we're going to do to keep the ducks off the edges on it.

I'm hoping the boys will swim in one section and the girls in the other,LOL.. WISH WISH

That pic is exactly what I want to do!  Do they sleep in the wired area?
@KelBoMorrison
They sleep here

I put em up every night it's totally secure and they have lights inside and out and motion detection lights. And I am going to rig up two sump pumps to cause a whirlpool effect in the pond to get it moving a lil more. It's really green at the moment. It's fed from natural a springs and WAS clear as a bell before the babies. I seen a man's rig at the local bait shop and it's impressive. Filters moves and keeps muck moving. I got a total kit from The Pond Guy. They know their stuff. Ordered mine over the phone and it's helped so much. Its removed literally an inch or two in a couple months.

that's the only pic I have of before the babies. This soon after.

Then this soon after. When we got the kit it looked like this.

They love playing in the bubbles. I moved them around periodically si that helps too.

I left the pines on the bank and it gives more cover than I hoped. This is what my wife and I have been looking for and we are only beginning to get everything the way it needs to be. Still love every second of my full time job that this has become. Sorry for rambling but it's good to know, talk to and relate to so many of you out there that are as passionate about other lives as we are. And we got a pig... lol.

TeamKelBoMorrison..

Beautiful! How do you keep the ducks off the edges?  And, what kind of plants do you have that they don't eat.
The edges slope into the pond and it's all sandy underneath. There's nothing they don't est...or only thing I out in that they did eat was a Lilly pad that we got at Lowe's but it didn't last long. There was already marsh grass and cattails. They filter so much it's among how much better it looks with they do. And we 8 more Apple yards we are getting rite in the house. The entire pond area will eventually be fenced in next to the horse passture. Then as well in the front yard.

I got oxytetracycline HCl any suggestions on dosage?? This gives per gallon. That seems like a lot to mix up for just him... @casportpony

Below are the various forms of tetracycline and oxytetracycline that TSC might have and I have calculated the 800 mg amount. Tetracycline Powder 5.5% (55mg per gram)

Product looks like this:

Package weighs 181 grams and has 10 grams tetracycline.
10 ÷ 181 = 0.055, which means it's 5.5% tetracycline, 94.5% filler
One gram = 55mg
One tablespoon weighs about 10 grams which = 550 mg
800 ÷ 550 = 1.45 tablespoons
The 800 mg dose for one gallon = 1.5 tablespoons (825mg is close enough)

Oxytetracyline

Package weighs 181.5 grams and has 10 grams oxytetracycline.
10 ÷ 181.5 = 0.055, which means it's 5.5% oxytetracycline, 94.5% filler
One gram = 55mg
One teaspoon weighs about 3 grams which = 165mg x 5 teaspoons = 825 mg
The 800 mg dose for one gallon = 5 teaspoons (825mg is close enough)

Oxytetracycline

This package weighs 280 grams
Package contains 102.4 grams oxytetracycline

102.4 / 280 = 0.37 , which means that it's 37% oxytetracycline and 63% filler
370 mg per gram
One teaspoon probably weighs 3 grams, so it's 3 x 370mg = 1110 mg per teaspoon
The 800 mg dose for one gallon = ~3/4 teaspoons

Oxytetracycline - 343

102.4 / 135.5 = 0.76 , which means that it's 76% oxytetracycline and 24% filler
760 mg per gram
One teaspoon probably weighs 3 grams, so it's 3 x 760mg = 2280 mg per teaspoon
The 800 mg dose for one gallon = ~1/3 slightly rounded teaspoon
