The Duck Thread

It's an iPhone 5s!

Perfect! I use Android phones but also have iPads. The best apps I've found for things like what you're doing on an iOS device are Torch Flashlight (my favorite) and Flashlight for iPhone. I use these flashlight apps all the time, especially on my phone. They're extremely bright, and they're very handy for things like reading a menu in a dark restaurant, finding your keys in the dark, lots of other things.

They won't, like you said JCG they know their own and will not accept others unlike chickens.

Well we are building a new enclosure for the blues. I just felt sad that her duckling went missing, but she's busy taking care of the new duckling and the rest of the eggs.

My hubby says whatever took the duckling (most likely the rat) also took an egg. So she's only sitting on 6 now and is keeping her duckling under her wing.

The duckling is yellow with green :hmm

We have some ducks that stop by and hang out with our farm ducks in the pond. I'm really wondering if they are the myscovy drake ducklings or mixed. The other two farm drakes aren't green...

She is taking care of the new duckling? the one you ordered? I maybe confused though. If this isn't her duckling and she is caring for it that is awesome. Please keep us updated on hatching and mama and baby.. Very sorry about your duckling being taken.

So I got an LED flashlight on my phone that works really well, candled the egg, and I can see absolutely no veins or any sign of anything other than the air cell and the yolk :( tomorrow will be day 9 of incubation. Should I just throw the egg out now?

If you are not seeing anything by day eight then I would be checking the incubator and getting some new eggs and try again .....

I've never tried candling an egg with a phone, but you should see very clear signs of development by day 8 in a fertile egg. I guess you could wait another couple of days if you want, especially if you're still planning to get one of those small flashlights John mentioned.
