The Duck Thread

We lost our best little show girl overnight last night. Acting fine when they went in the pen last night, came out this morning to find her floating in the pond already gone. I'm so depressed I can't even think of anything to do today other than mess around on the Internet and try not to think.
I'm so very sorry:(

Quote: I started at the beginning of August. I think my calculations are off on what day (or maybe initial temp was too low, didn't have a good thermometer yet). According to my paper I'm on day 28, but it doesn't seem to match development. I didn't start charting right away and might be off with my days. The air cell is under my hand, it dips down on the other side of the egg but not too much. I marked it yesterday and it does look like it might be a little on the small side, but not too sure (my reading is definitely off, it reads out at 50-51% I know that's not right based on air sac, but don't have another way to read RH). These days might be off (d/t charting maybe), but it's what I have them marked as.

This is a picture from what I thought was day 7:

This is one from what I thought was day 15:

I can try to nab a picture of the air sac tonight.

I am so sad :hit I went over to my workshop to lock down my eggs before work and found the incubator off! I don't know what happened, everything was plugged in, so I think maybe a breaker flipped or something. Didn't have time to mess with it so ran the eggs into the house and plugged the incubator in. The eggs were all stone cold. I candled and still saw veins but in some it looked like the had started to disintegrate. I can just hope I saved some of them but I won't know until I get home from work at midnight and I might have lost the whole batch if I didn't catch it qui k enough. It could have been out for a few days.

Well, we're off to the facility to get a necropsy done on our little girl. Please wish me luck. This is very difficult for me. I'm still having a hard time dealing with the fact that she's gone.

Good luck, dear! I appreciate you taking her since it's a learning experience for all of us.

Oh no! Very sorry!! Hopefully it wasn't off too long.

If you're saying Friday is day 28, you'd stop the turner on Tuesday. You also want to increase the RH to around 65%. Like you said, there's no point this late in the game in giving up. :fl

Ok stop the turner tomorrow. Should i use sponges or just fill the little troughs? Thanks for all your help the past few weeks! Still not sure if I want to start another batch so late in the year. Hubbys coworker has Rouens that are laying and he said he would GLADLY bring some in if I want to try again.

I'm so sorry, Pyxis. We had an incubator disaster a while back and lost all but one embryo. That one is in lockdown right now.

There was a lady on BYC a couple of months ago who had moved to a house and found out too late that her incubator was plugged into an outlet the previous owner had put on a timer. Did you find out if it was a breaker issue? That seems odd since incubators don't draw enough to flip a breaker, but maybe if you have a lot of other stuff on it that could have put it over the edge.
