Hello againit's very humid in San Antonio and temp is in the upper 80's. My incubator is in my garage I have the door slightly ajar to keep it from getting stuffy the temp is perfect but the humidity is at 70 so the digital thermometer I bought says... The humidity on the incubator itself says 55![]()
not sure which one to believe and will this hurt my chances of a hatching![]()
Interesting. Can't trust the units usually. Take the one you bought out and test it. Take a soda bottle cap, shot glass, small cup of some kind and pour some salt into it. Add enough water to the salt to just barely make all of the salt wet. Slurry, not enough to make the salt dissolve. Put this salt slurry and your hygrometer into a Ziploc bag or tupperware container. Something that you can seal completely. Do not let the salt slurry touch your hygrometer, as it can mess it up! Wait a few hours and check the humidity reading. It should be 75%. It is a scientific fact that salt slurry is 75% relative humidity at room temp. Mine read 72% so I put a piece of tape on my meter and wrote "3% low" on it. So when I look at the reading, I know to add 3.
Even though this takes a few hours to do, its still worth it to know what's going on in your incubator and which instrument to trust. You can do it overnight while you are sleeping. Good luck!
