External pip, 30 min ago.... 1 week early...!

Ducks! And as of 25 seconds ago I just noticed start of a zip and an external pip on egg 2! Of course this is while I'm putting in an egg attacked by its mom... Grrrr.

I'm very surprised at this and can't wait to hear how this turns out. I've never had an egg be pipped and/or zipped a week early. I wouldn't actually have thought that was possible. Can you remind me what breed you have? I lose track of who has what when it's not in a breed-specific thread.

White mallard x pekin. I separated a community nest of 29 eggs. I let momma keep 10, I took 10, and we made breakfast with 9! Momma had moved her nest (reasons unknown) 2 weeks ago. Three feet to the left. She only had 7 eggs left after that. 1 is a quitter. Today she started attacking the eggs as they pipped. 1 dead baby. 1 crushed egg in bator, bad egg rolled out, by her. She's back on nest calmly now. Due to bator problems, I was down to 2 eggs. Now the crushed one also. Estimated 30% of shell destroyed, all of it cracked. Baby alive, behind in development by perhaps 3-4 days. About the only conclusion I have, some of the communal eggs were further along in development.
