Has anyone found a high protein duckling food that keep them full and not so ravinous when it comes to food? I was feeding them fish food when they were
little in their water, now that their in their 1st molt they act very starved and their not. So with no luck finding any food that was high enough protein I've started feeding them 50/50 along with the corn and fish food and veggies, but they are still acting starved. Any Advice, thoughts, suggestions welocme.

Growing duck usually need a lot of food. How old are they?

I went out tonight to do the chores and I found my muscovy hen off her nest. Went to check and 2 ducklings had hatched and were cold, 1 dead stuck in the shell and 4 pips. This is the second time she has gone to the end and then been a bad momma. Put 11 eggs in the bator and the cold ducklings(just to make sure). Heres hoping they are not all dead. 1 is peeping and moving. The bator was cold but still set up. I had finished all the hatching 2 weeks ago but hadnt put everything away yet. Not sure I will let her tryand hatxh ever again.

You guys don't might if I rant for a minute, do you? I made a thread for this in the Random Ramblings section but it's always nice to vent to friends

I've been selling eggs on eBay. I had read accounts of egg sellers getting burned and I probably should have known better after reading threads like this one, but there's really no other place to reach such a large customer base so I went ahead and did it. I hadn't had any problems until recently, when my last two buyers didn't pay. Now, eggs are time sensitive, of course, so I opened an upaid item case (my eBay account is set up to do it automatically after two days go by and I'm not paid).

The first buyer finally pays five days after the auction closes. Now the eggs that I had set aside and ready to ship for them, had they paid when the auction closed like it said to in my auction, couldn't be sent any more, they were too old. So I had to throw them all out. Obviously I can't send eggs I don't have, so I had to wait till the birds laid new eggs to send. While waiting (I had sent two messages to the buyer at this point, the first one asking for payment, the second explaining the situation, and gotten no reply) I received feedback for eggs she hadn't even received from me yet, calling me impatient but saying that the eggs were great. Now, I'm not impatient, firstly. Her delayed payment caused me to have to throw out 14 eggs I would have otherwise sold. Secondly, I hadn't even shipped the eggs yet, so obviously she was leaving me feedback for eggs she bought from someone else. I sent her a message telling her this, again got no reply. Finally got the eggs collected and shipped out yesterday and thought that would be the end of it.

Nope. Today she opened an unreceived item case against me. For the eggs I just sent yesterday. That she had tracking info for and could clearly see that they were sent yesterday. Also included was a message that said "havent received , eggs probaly arent good anymore". That was the whole message. So I responded, again telling her what was going on, that they were shipped yesterday, they were fresh, and they will probably arrive tomorrow. Then I included the tracking number in the case for good measure, in case she decides to try to escalate it to eBay support. So now, even though I've done everything right and the whole thing was caused by her not paying on time, I now have to sit and wait and see if she's going to open a case against me.

Oh, and the second buyer still hasn't paid. If they haven't paid by Tuesday I can close the case against them and be fine, but they have until then to pay, thanks to eBay making you wait at least four days after the first two days you have to wait before you can even open the case. If they pay, I have to send eggs. After already having to throw out the first ones I had set aside.

Phew. Feels good to get that off my chest.

You didn't do anything wrong. It's a given on eBay that you don't ship until the buyer pays, and the buyer didn't do a prompt payment for a pretty quickly perishable item. You can respond to the mediation on eBay to ask them for a feedback revision.

What do you mean about they're acting starved? Ducks nibble at things a lot, and that doesn't mean they're starving. What's the behavior you're seeing? It can be caused by worms, but worms aren't common in ducks.

A high-protein food isn't necessarily going to fix what you're seeing. It's more the quality of the food that matters. Ducks that age should be on a 14-16% protein diet, not the high protein ducklings need.

Great looking flock you have ....

In my lifetime I have found that dogs, pigs and ducks always like they are starving just part of their make up I guess and the funny part is all three of these animals will eat them selves into a severely extended stomach ...

I use flock raiser for the web footed creatures in my yard ......

Here is our Duck Treehouse, and the pond area, Dave did a great job, I can clean the pen and house in ten minutes, the pond gets changed daily and it's not too bad, a kiddie pool set in a dug out spot in the corner of the yard, with rocks and shells around it, they love it,
I am planting and adding things here and there, it's a work in progress, but we are all having a blast, thanks for all the great posts, I am still learning and with my Rex laying eggs I am going to see if she will set on them or if not maybe I will incubate a few
Thanks again to all you wonderful duck lovers out here, you inspire and help me more than you can ever know

Oops, the last picture isn't supposed to be on here, that is some cabinets we built, sorry about that, here is the most recent picture I have of Rex and Sadie
