I think alot of the concern there is that to many people it seems as if mom pops them out, and then hands them off once they're weaned or the next one comes to one of the older children. Now this happens in smaller families two, once my mom went back to work after my sister was born I "got to" spend the bulk of my waking time tending to a baby then toddler then preschooler while she ran a company. I'm still not sure why she had children, she didn't seem to enjoy any of it. There is a real oppertunity for abuse in a system of belief that tells girls thier function in life is determined by how many babies they can carry, and likewise insisting that children raise other children is a concern. Yes it's how things were done for thousands of years, but that doesn't mean it's the only or even the optimal way.
