I hope you really enjoy it!
I sweated through my first hatch, afraid to let anyone know how nervous I was, untill after lockdown

Then I had to come to the section for incubateing and hatching to vent my fears.

I did read as much info as I could find on here about hatching eggs before I started, but had no idea that I would freak over a bunch of eggs after watching my three children and hundreds of animals being born. Now I get with a group here at BYC so we can support each other and vent a little emotion when necessary.

I understand the frustration of trying to ask the difference between an EE and that "other" breed. I've had my head taken off too. But the way I understand as it was explained to me. EE's are the original breed that went into make that "other" breed. So it's the other one that is the real Mutt breed!!!

Now are they EE's or that "other" breed? They don't have green legs!!! But that one on the left looks like she has the beginning of a Fro hair cut!

That is going to be one pretty bird!!

Yet.

Its hard to say for sure, but I think their legs will turn green in time. Ameraucana must have black or slate colored legs, Araucana must have green colored legs; but the beauty of EEs is that they can be any color. EEs can also have many other characteristics that would disqualify them as either Ameraucana or Araucana........................ and that makes them my favorite! [And I confess I'm very serious about breeding them; both my Ameraucana and EE, though I will probably, eventually, hang a name on my line of EE to designate them seperate from the other blue or green egg layers]

We could call her an EE as well, but NAQ is a much better description, as I could breed her with a RIR, Buff Orpington, or some other such dumpling breed and that offspring would be an EE - due to the fact that the blue egg gene is dominant.

I could mutt her up with something Blue or Lavender or Silver, etc., and then selectively breed those future generations to create an APA-Ameraucana, but that would be a complete waste of time. We could call her an Ameraucana just the way she is, since the APA is nothing but a club of fanciers, not a legislative body setting the law on what is and is not or may or may not be called anything. If we apply the Ameraucana folks' propaganda to Marans, then I suppose Black Coppers are the only "true" Marans, and have only been Marans for about a week now. All other Marans varieties must then be "mutt chickens with the chocolate egg gene(s)".
