Delmar how old are these birds ? Many people have mistaken the gender of their chickens. It is not an easy thing to do . I hatched out two and I knew within a few weeks because I caught the tiny rooster trying to practice. It was pretty funny. Anyway I would suggest that you keep them a while like you stated above, learn the different personalities and if you can handle each one. It will be more easy to make a decision as to who get to give up himself for the sake of some humans nutrition. They are all pretty. I believe that brassy back black is a way to describe the black roo with the brassy back.

You may or may not wonder about this, but the woman who sold the birds to you may not have know the sex of the birds either. It is very hard to tell with most breeds until it is very obvious. With a silkie or any large crested bird, it could be close to one year. EE are difficult as well until they crow or lay eggs. Many an experienced person has been fooled by Carlos or looked like Carla.

Here is a nice pic of my 17 week old black EE(OE?) - these were mystery eggs, so I had to wait a while to figure out who or what everyone was. I think she's (pretty sure she's a she) pretty - all of my older EE's are the standard brown type. She looks almost americauna, but I think the legs are the wrong color. No matter to me!

She looks very much like my younger olive eggers.

It does happen I think all three are great looking roosters, on EE's it is so hard sometimes to tell the hens from the roosters at times. I love EE's just got 2 new babies in April from the farm store I am hoping for green egg layers. Good luck
