Such gorgeous girlies! The Black Bearded EE hen is one of my favorites, what is her name?

Thank you! That would be Rosie. I'm pretty sure she will be the alpha hen.

She sure looks like it!

Where did you get them from? They're so pretty and well cared for.

I got them from MyPetChicken. The only one that had an issue was the gold EE; she had very crooked toes. MPC gave us links for poultry orthopedics; we tried several sets of 'shoes' before we used just the ends of bandaids.....she looked like a duck then. She still has somewhat crooked toes but you'd never know it, in fact she's a better moth catcher than the others. This is the first time I've had chickens; I've learned a lot from BYC and friends that have chickens. My friends say I'm a very good chickenmama!!

Here's a more recent pic than the one above, this one was taken yesterday July 13...the other June 17th. You can see Stella's crooked toes; they were much worse when she was tiny.

Edited to add picture.

Her name is Dawn, she is just a barnyard mix hen that decided to start roosting in the front yard one day. At night when we have the porch light on she'll jump off her roost and eat all the Moths, Bean Bugs and everything else she can get her beak on and gobbe'em up! It's so funny, but...she is a smart chicken.

I want to get a bug zapper sometime for my girls.

Doesn't sound like they need a zapper.

No, not Dawn to be sure. I was mostly thinking about using it for my chicks and young juveniles that aren't allowed out at night like Dawn and her buddy Beepbeeb.

I came across some old chicken pictures while cleaning out the memory on my cell phone, and sure enough, my other Easter-Eggers were in the lot!

Here's Maddie. This picture has to be two or three years old; we lost her at least two years ago. I think she just reached that age, she couldn't go on any longer. She just acted tired that day, right before we found her. (By the way, her eyes were more golden. You can't see it very well with this picture.)

Unfortunately, most of the oldest of my Easter-Eggers were gone before I had any camera available to me.

But I remember Ducki was white with a gray splash on her head and just a few pale spots of rust in her wings, and Smoky was black and white, kinda like a mottled silver pencilled hen I think..?

And Cubby and Merlin, last year.

This is Merlin as a pullet, sunbathing (with a Wyandotte about to step on her head

) :

And Cub, also sunbathing:

Too bad I didn't get any chick pics of these girls... But I do remember that Merlin was dark brown with no obvious markings when she was a chick.

Here is my EE girl. I had 2 EE chicks, but one decided to be a boy, even though I begged him to be a girl
roll.png
Not to worry, I found a nice family who had 15 EE pullets - sure that one would be a boy and not a roo in the bunch. They wanted an EE boy for their flock, so he is living the good life (for an accidental roo). This is Love who is the alpha hen - appropriate since "the greatest of these is Love"

She is 16 weeks old and I'm anxiously awaiting my first little egg - what color will it be?
