Thought I'd show off the baby EEs I will be keeping

ended up w/ 10 single combs & 10pea combs(keeping these)

Here is a group photo of the ones I wont be keeping

That is some serious cuteness going on there. What is the cross? Looks like some of the outgoing are barred? With my luck - all the light ones would be boys...

Also, what do you do with the ones you won't be keeping? Do you sell them? I want to start working on a silkie project (I know, not EEs) and I was wondering what to do with the ones that don't match the colors I want to keep.. do your feed stores buy them? Swap meets? Craigs List? I don't think I could "cull" them by killing them.. not those cute fuzzy butts!

Well the layers I have are barred rocks, RIR, NH, Australorp, & Easter Eggers. I also have some EE/orp & EE/barred crosses that should start laying anytime now.
Turns out most of what I will sell is the barred crosses.

I have my own FB page & website, also use other sites like craigs list, ebay, or hoobly.

The ones I am keeping I will end up sorting thru once the roos show themselves, if there are too many I will prob offer them up for sale, otherwise, who ever is the nicest & gets his job best will get the girls. Evil will most likely meet the table but that wont be for many months.

Our girls will go to their reward naturally, and I keep reading how chickens only lay a few years. I'm glad to hear that yours are still contributing to their keep, if even a little. Gives me some hope mine won't be totally on the dole for years

My daughter is like that (well not sitting on a branch). She doesn't like having her picture taken.

Looks like some SERIOUS muff, beard AND neck feather pecking going on in your flock!

Bruce
my dad told me you can tell that she is my chicken because i hate having my picture taken and apparently she feels the same way.

Finally broke down and got some EE's. I got 3 day olds from ideal and 2 are chipmunk and one is yellow so I am hoping she is white but I am not holding my breath. One thing I did not expect was how huge the chicks are compared to all the others....I suppose it is the hybred vigor at work :) My kids are in love with the puffy cheeks (beards) and call them their cuties. Three chicks for 3 kids and the boys claimed the chipmunk patterns and my daughter is becoming attached to the little yellow girl. Hopefully they continue to thrive! Now if thay all lay tinted eggs this will be a success :)

Wynne and Mako were yellow as chicks. They're mostly white now. :)

This is Wynne (the one with the light-colored eyes above) as a baby. I don't think I have a younger picture of Mako, though.

(Don't mind the blue/purple tint on her wing, it's from a blacklight.)

Then Betty was yellow with an orange blotch on her forehead.
