. so If i took away the eggs they are akying on they would wait for someone to lay and egg and sit on it (they are determined lol). I think I have about 10 chicks right now, around 35 chickens grown, and 21 eggs in the incubator. But who couldnt use more chickss. I think i have a little obession lol. O well it is a good hobby to have!

All right I have 36 EE & EE crossed to Welsummer for OE chicks. Watching how fast their wings are growing and so many of them also sprouting tail feathers I think I have almost all boys! I am hoping that is not the case, but... These hatched April 7 and all of them are from my red EE boy

Pretty sure this one is a boy as well as all it's siblings; they look much alike; thick legs, tails & wings, Mamma was half black australorp and half EE

Their mamma was a Welsummer pullet

This ones wings are not growing so fast as most of the others, from a black & white EE hen

her wing spread

then some have wings that look like these

This one from a Welsummer/Leghorn cross hen and my red EE boy

Just trying to figure this out; they are sooo tiny at hatch I can't vent sex, I"ve tried. Scared I will hurt them. I have more hatching now that I want to sell but so many people only want sexed pullets....

Just a little tidbit on the feathering out bit...

I recently hatched some 1st gen EEs. I watched the tail-feathering closely on about 5 and those that were "supposed" to be girls were boys and vice versa. I don't think this method is reliable at all. Other indicators are better.

The 3 wing pictures, first 2 are boys last one is girl. Knock on wood i have yet to be wrong about this with my hatches

Of the EEs I hatched last month I think only 3 are females. Ooh boy, 6 males! With mine, the ones with the wings that grow unevenly the first few days (for whatever reason I call it pop-wing) turn out to be males while the ones with even feather growth so that the wings look smooth are females. I'm going to have to take some update pictures tomorrow so I can track chick down to adult feathers like I did with my last batch. I have 13 EEs that are due to hatch this weekend. My daughter can't wait to watch the incubator when the eggs start hatching. Last time she had me pull her highchair in front of it so she could watch while she ate breakfast.

My cuckoo Marans had those crazy wings where the tips are long and the rest is short. For a while, I thought she might have a feathering defect because the wing feathers stuck out a bit as they were coming in. But she's all girl -- the feathers are in now and her dark coloring and round shape scream pullet.
