EE's in general are well mannered.
My first EE Roo is only 3 months old, and a very good boy..we will see how he stays, LOL

I think your guy is going to have a darker head/neck then Oreo though

Here's my little man, Hika Ma. These were taken on Saturday, so he was 4 weeks and 6 days old:

Mr.friendly in the rain this morning. He was running to the rescue of the broody I was taking a picture of. She was making a scene and he ran over on alert to see what was going on. A new little hen behind him. His comb is strange looking not pea nor is it single. Splash maran roo over Pea comb EE hen made this guy.

He looks like a good flock protector - with a chef's hat on

He is very handsome though!

Thanks, he wasn't the best looking roo I had to chose from this fall. But he was the friendliest and biggest. I learned from this dad don't go by looks first lol.
These were the other 3 I didn't keep. I was looking for a bearded, dark legged, featherless shanks and large rooster. Color wasn't a concern.


No beard on these guys. The top one had yellow leg the bottom one had feathered legs. Genetics is a hard thing to chase on EE's lol.



This guy was very hansom. He had a v shaped comb and a fat beard. but he was half the size of the one I kept.

Hatched new chicks the 7th of June All EE's Dads are Amerucana Blue splashes, 2 roos in the cage. dad #1 What type of hen is this? white eggs, blue legs Dad #2 hens pulled beard out buff hen looks to be the mother of some of these chicks.

#1 roo silver hen some of my hens all green or blue egg layers (except the barred hen)her sister lay beautiful olive egg like my dark hen the fox doesn't catch to many of them barred hen brown egg layer In the chick picture there are some cochin bantams too not ees

the unknown breed blue hen is a blue Andalusian.

I like the one you kept - but I also like this guy! He looks like he might have been Splash, is that possible? I really like his stance, his tail set and his huge fat beard. I would have kept him, even though he was small.

Yes by looking at your beautiful birds I'm thinking I have a boy, darn. That means I have to find one of my Roos a home. I guess I better think of a new name Abby won't do. Thanks for posting the pics and thanks everyone for your help. One more question are EE Roos normally on the aggression side or pretty good natured towards people?

It varies, I think. I have one roo and I think his mood varries day-to-day. Usually, I would show him the bottom of my boot and he'd only batter that (sometimes I'd get him knocked down, sometimes not). Last Wednesday,however, while I was throwing out kitchen scraps, he body slammed my hand and broke the skin near a vein in my wrist. I grabbed him up by the legs and carried him upside down into the house, bleeding all over him. After tending to my wound (with help from teenage son), I put him under a laundry basket, bloody feathers and all, for the rest of the afternoon. I thought it was funny that the hens kept jumping onto the laundry basket (haha, you jump on my back, rip out my feathers, and now I'm on top of you). I did consider letting him into the run but not the coop for night time but I took pity on him. Since then (granted it's only been a few days) he's left me alone. I had some chicks hatch that should be EE's (he's the only roo and I hatched only the blue eggs) so I'm debating about starting over with one of the chicks being the next roo. The chicks are only a week old so I don't even know how many are boys and how many are girls.

We had a mutt roo last year that was intent on killing my husband. He wouldn't bother my kids or myself but as soon as my husband walked into "his space" he would crouch down and charge him. He especily liked when my husband had his back to him, then he would attack spurs beak and claws right into his back. He sunk his spur into his heel, it got infected and was a nasty mess. Fortunately we got a kind lil roo out of his off spring and he was culled.

Had another EE start laying for me yesterday. Earilest one for me yet! 21 weeks old. Mine generally start at about 25 to 26 weeks.
I have four in this pen so don't know which one it is.
