The EE braggers thread!!!

This is my only bearded EE girl, Singleton. So named because of all the eggs her mum was sitting on, she was the only one to hatch. I have 5 others in various colors, all lay blue/green eggs, and the other 5 are all clean faced.
I live in New Zealand, and here we have what we call araucanas, but they are not the true araucana, in type, they are very similar to the ameraucana. Judging from the body type of my wee bantam girls, they are a mix of mostly pekin, but with some nz araucana in their lineage somewhere. Interestingly enough, none of them have proper pea combs, they all have some variation on a rose comb. The photos are a few months old, and Singleton's comb has since grown a little more, and developed a bit of a wave and wiggle to it.

Not quite an EE - one of the Amerucana roo's I have. He was lavender went white. Seems like no one on the AM thread will answer when I ask about his tail set and yellow beak - I went to the AM thread and they have a pic of a white roo with yellow beak, yet someone else over on the AM list commented (on another person's bird) that yellow beak means yellow skin?

I think he's pretty anyway, but would love some feedback. Thanks!

"the genes, W W , are of a general nature and have the effect of producing white skin, beak and shank color and that the alleles,ww,produce yellow color. Crosses have been made and the results reported in this paper which show that the genes EE are of a general nature and affect not only the plumage color but also the deposition of melanic pigment in the shanks. In all probability they also affect the beak and eye color."

So if the bird lacks melanic pigments, & it has yellow skin you have a pretty good chance for yellow beak... but as with everything exceptions are out there, for instance a person whose breeding experiments with a goal of creating a land runner bantam chicken (not a flying bird) was able to produce a blue shaded beak, it is a very unique colour combo, I am unsure what the genetics involved where but I saw a picture of the bird he posted on the net.

I have read repeatably that it is desirable in many breeds for beak & shanks to match indicating that the opposite can happen. I imagine there are inhibitors that might cause the mix match.

Bellow is a nice breeding for Lavender link using Leghorn & Araucana:

As to his tail he looks maybe rumpless to me. Quail Tailed AKA Rumpless is an Araucana trait. He might be an Ar/Am/? mix for instance, see if you can feel his tail bone, if you can't find it he is Rumpless.

As too his feathers changing colour, roosters often do weird things when they molt, like look like normal feathers but then molt and in comes Henny feathers... He is probably a white base bird, so the lavender is hidden, as White Lavenders look white, that is my guess anyhow on the colour change.

I hope this helps. :)

It does! I was going to sell him (I also have a black roo and a lavender roo) but I think he'll stay to see how he turns out. What the heck, what's one more roo anyways? All mine get along right now - I have a mixed flock with 6 roos plus these three, and have the girls (as soon as most mature) about 8 to one roo. I intended to sell just eggs and kinda got sidetracked.

Here are the trio right when I first got them a week ago..

I know from reading through the EE/OE threads there are a few folks working on Rumpless lines usually with muffs & beards. Your black & lavender roos + your white/lavender boy can be used to set up a nice lavender breeding/isabel breeding program,,,

I don't know if EE can have a polish head????

This chick was hatched out by one of my broodies and his fluff of feathers on his head is about 3 times bigger than his siblings! Can I have other peoples thoughts please????
Here he is, he is about 4 1/2 weeks old!

As soon as I get a chance, I'll read it (I am taking breaks from putting on a barn roof with hubby).

Here is the pullet that I also have. I like to think I have a good start...

He is a nice one. If you breed them that way then yes they can have top knots. I've bred some of mine that way on purpose.

Here are some:

Rooster that I used for one breeding season. He was about 9/10 weeks in this picture.
First one that I bred. Still have her. This isn't a real good picture though.

Second one that I bred. Never used him in the breeding pen. Wished that I had, I've never gotten a rooster (crested) this good since.
