EEs are a mix of different breeds so they will usually look different from one another. They come in all kinds of colors, shapes, sizes and neck lengths lol. I'll always have some of these in my flock cause a lot of the ones I've come across are really sweet and friendly. I have a 3 month old EE that I hatched this year that is already free ranging with the big girls and her own small flock & whenever I'll crouch down or sit on the ground she runs over and jumps up on my leg and lays down so I can pet her beard and comb. When she hatched she was 3x smaller than some of the other hatchlings and I thought she was not going to make it past the first week. I named her turtle cause when she was a couple of days old she fell on her back and was moving her feet screaming cause she couldn't turn back over. Since then we've been buddies.. they're so cute lol. This is my turtle The first chicken I fell in love with was actually an EE. She was also the first and only chicken I've lost to eggbound the day after she layed her first egg. I tried to save her but I was too late. Good learning experience for me though cause now I know how an eggbound chicken can behave so I always keep a close eye on the young point of lay girls. This was my lil skepchick sitting at the computer with me She loved posing for pics lol

What a cute little story about Turtle! I am sorry about you losing your favorite little EE. It's really hard sometimes. I'd be devastated to lose mine. Almost did once already. A dog got one of mine and the entire flock had split up and was all hiding in different spots around the yard. I ran around frantically and found all of them except for my fav little EE, Hoot. I FINALLY found her in our tool shed. Absolute and instant relief when I opened the door and saw her puffy little cheeks and big green eyes staring back at me.

Egg bound is when the animal isn't able to lay it's egg and from my understanding there are several things that can cause this to happen.

Well with my skepchick the first egg she laid she did it right in the nest box since I had a fake egg in there she knew that's where her egg was supposed to go. The next day it seemed like she needed to lay an egg, but she didn't quite know where to put it. She kept going in and out of the nest repeatedly. She seemed kind of confused and went to the corner of the coop and started jumping up in the air and seemed really panicky, distressed, and desperate. She just kept jumping up in all of the corners of the coop.

I was naive and thought that she just had to lay another egg and maybe was realizing that she was going to have to do this 5 or 6 days a week, but I was wrong. A little while after this I went to go check on her and she was just laying down in the coop and was droopy & lethargic. I picked up her head and she didn't hold it up so I immediately picked her up and brought her in the house and came to BYC to try and find out what was wrong with her and I learned about eggbound so I put her in a tub of warm water in my bathtub and began trying to treat her, but I was too late and she passed away in my arms. I wrapped her up in a towel and left her on the floor of thee bathroom til hubby came home. I was a mess... but it was a great learning experience for me. We buried her near one of my coops under a big rock that I sometimes sit on and have my morning coffee. She made made me very happy and continues to make me happy whenever I think of her

Sorry if this was kind of long, but hopefully it may be able to help someone that may be having a problem with egg bound before it's too late.

Can anyone post pictures of a HEN with a three-row peacomb? one of my hopeful pullets has a three-row comb, and I'd like to see how that will look as she gets older. Does a 3-row grow larger?

Only 6 of the 20 Easter Egger chicks I hatched last spring had 1 row pea combs, so at first I figured I had mostly cockerels and only a few pullets. In the end though I ended up with 10 pullets and 10 cockerels. 5 of the pullets had 3 row combs, and 5 had single row pea combs. All but one of the cockerels had 3 row combs.

This hen I hatched off last year had every indication of being a cockerel, 3 rows of peas, red patches, an all around ''chunky'' feel, etc. She now gives me eggs almost every day. I wish I had a picture of her as a chick.
