The EE braggers thread!!!

babyrnic beautiful blue

one bad roti if the rooster is an EE that carries the blue eggs gene yes he will pass it on and I had one of those roosters mate with a red sex link who layed hugh brown eggs and have only one offspring but she lays beautiful hugh golden green eggs. Remeber that other breeds such as the Dominique with their pea comb are not EE and only carry the brown egg gene

Depends on how the "buttercup" looks. Have pics? Sounds like he's a cross of EE and a V combed bird, honestly. . . Which then, it depends on how the comb looks. Pea based V combs (pea x V) look like buttercup combs, same with single x V, and one will lay blue eggs, one white eggs.

Here is a pic of the comb on the EE I was asking about.

Do yall think he'll throw the colored egg gene when crossed?

There's a chance. btw That isn't technically a buttercup comb.

If you know his parentage you should know what the best crossing is. Otherwise, My best advice is to cross him with a white egg layer. Keeps whatever color he has. Crossing a white egg layer to an unknown EE produces pullets that lay just a little lighter of egg than what the EE would lay if it were a hen.

was at the feed store today here in California. They had two aracana hens for sale. Cute little hens BUT she politely laid a egg for me Green egg. So I didn't buy them.
I purchased hatching Blue hatching eggs On the auction they looked bright blue. I to was abit disappointed in the color but they were blue not green blue They were blue. And I did get 2 pullets and 2 roos from the hatch . 4 didnt pip and 4 were not fertile or died shortly after setting. Was happy with the hatch 2 blues 2 blacks. 1 clean face 3 bearded. So I have a good start on blue egg layers. Maybe in 6 weeks they will start laying.
So I experminted taking pictures. In shade and in the sun light. NO photo shop just my sony camera.. They are as different as day and night. Closer to the light blue eggs. Going post both pictures. These eggs are light blue from my hatchery chickens murrys and ideal. I did get some green egg hens too. Love my hatchery chickens. Have know want to show chickens. Have had EEs for over 40 years off and on. In fact going to buy in March to have winter layers from Rancher feed store. They order (EES) Ameracana pullets each spring, Most these chicks are nice beard chicks. And grow up to be nice size chickens.
Anyway pictures wont load up I am going to try to get them to be a jpeg file Be back
So buyers beware sometime picture are alot different than what you get.
lets try this to see pictures http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v291/Cremello4332/colored eggs/

Sueg4332- That's so cool that you can find Araucana's at a feed store out there. Were they rumpless or tufted? Don't blame you tho, I would have passed on them because of the green egg. Nice of the hen to present you with a sample tho! If what I am seeing of your photo of the blue eggs is the true color to the eye then you have what I consider the ultimate, perfect color egg! Beautiful!! Altho they are from EE's the original description of Araucana eggs are an egg of "robin's egg blue" color. I too have had EE's off and on since the early '70's. Fascinating breed that as you have probably noticed have become very popular in the last few years...

I have a beautiful blue hen that I believe is an Araucana, but not positive----doesn't really matter to me. I think she is the one laying my olive eggs. I plan to breed her with the roo I bought at the same time this past Aug.----he is beautiful too. Both are pretty much tail-less, and she is bearded------can't wait to see what the chicks look like!!

Well, I guess the hen is not an Araucana, as she has a beard. That's fine with me, she's a very pretty and sweet girl!

If the rooster has a pea comb does that mean he will pass the colored egg gene to his chicks, when crossed?

Not necessarily ; there is a better chance that he will though if he inherited the pea comb from a blue/green egg laying parent .
