No I will not order more EE chicks but I will order eggs to incubate because hatching your own eggs is almost as eggciting as collecting first hatched eggs. In fact collecting eggs never gets old. I am always happy to see my newly laid bouquet of fresh eggs. Thank you girls !

I did not squeeze them to get the egg to come out. I was planning on doing that when I got home and the egg was already there. I guess they knew what was about to happen and decided they better make an egg to keep me satisfied.

I have always found the "FRYING PAN" talk is so much more effective!

I did tell them that they would be put in seperate pens until they decided to lay eggs. So maybe that did the trick. The egg is so pretty. I decided to keep it so I could look at it.

SunnyD, Ecuador does sound really nice, 'specially if they are a "chicken friendly" group of people. I have traveled the whole length of Central Amer. and parts of SA and one thing I did notice was the great abundance of chickens- all shapes and sizes! And yes, politics and policies are always a very touchy subject. It is a fact tho that there is some things that are definately wrong in this country and it is a very small percentage of those of retirement age that can afford to retire and still make ends meet. Anywhere south of the US border the US $ still goes a long way and there are "safe" areas to be found with sizeable populations of Americans that have relocated for retirement reasons. BTW, I am not a she but a he. Really no way of knowing that by my username on BYC.
Also congrats on your first EE egg Jennifersmith326, hope there are many more to follow! Likewise to those that have eggs hatching. Has been so much rain here lately that I can't get a thing done outside so am not quite finished with my breeding pens. Then eggs for the 'bator!!

I was just in the Philippines visiting family and my grandpa takes care of 50 or so chickens. He even has what we called a "Mega Rooster" because he was about 2 feet tall or so and he would "herd" all the other chickens lol. But no one complains about roosters; in fact almost everybody had one. Your chicken could fly or walk into a neighbor's yard and they wouldn't care. I once saw a hen with about eight chicks under her and I thought she looked funny with all those little feet peeping out from her feathers. The chickens at my grandpa's nested in handwoven baskets. The chickens there free range everywhere!! And if you like goats, you'll see a lot of them on the sides of the road, too lol. It is a very chicken-friendly country.
