6chickens in St. Charles :

He/she is the love child of our EE hen:

... and our black-over-blue Silkie rooster:

they have been best friends since forever,

...and we saw them dating a few weeks ago. The next day, there was her lazy-laid egg under the feeder fountain, so I put it under a broody, marked the calendar for 21 days and ! ta-daa ! here is their chick! Does this chick qualify as an EE? I really hope its a roo, the EE roos are gorgeous! But the wingtips are quite round, and this chick has a squishy round rump (both the mom and dad have fantastic tails!)
What do you think? EE? Mutt?

So, do you think I get bragging rights with this chick? If her momma is an EE, does that make her an EE too?

I have 7 EE chicks, am hoping they are all pullets (will try to send a picture tomorrow). Since i'm in the city roosters are 'not allowed' but was wondering.... Generally speaking how noisy are EE roosters?

Don't do it unless you have canvassed all of your neighbors. Every roosters crows. It might become less and more subdued if the rooster is in the garage for the night but that gets old and is still risky although it is tempting. I know from experiece. As soon as I hear an attempt at crowing that boy get moved out.

My Daisy is the loudest most obnxious rooster ever. It's a good thing the nieghbors all around me have roosters and peafowl and even Macaws, otherwise I'm afraid there would be complaints!

I had a beautiful EE cockerel who started at eight weeks. Poor baby I could not afford to take chances. Besides his father was very aggressive.

Kassaundra, You have had the best of all EEs or should I say that it have been your good fortune to have a very healthy and pretty EEs. tee hee.... but seriously EEs are great birds but cockerels are defensive by nature. I have had the worst luck or something. I have seven hens in with a four month old polish cockerel. Four of the hens are mature and the others are four months old also and not sguatting or showing any interest in anything but food. The dumb cock has tryied to mount the hen of each age group but he has no clue or is not able to do anything but grab their comb and jump on their back. The big wellie girls are very annoyed with him. I migh need to take action.
