Anyone have any experience with this???

One of our bantams (one week old) is lifting one leg like it hurts and won't walk on it. I can't see anything obviously wrong with it. Whenever we pick it up it will curl the foot under itself. It doesn't move around the brooder the way it should to get to food and water but when placed near them will drink and eat. What should I do for it?

At this age it could be an injury since it is lifting it's leg, but the toes curling under can be a sign of vitamin B 2 (riboflavin) deficiency. You can use poultry vitamins in the water or crush a B Complex tablet in water or some feed.

Today is day 4 of giving doxycycline in the birds drinking water. It appears I can only give this medication for one more day.....so I have gone ahead and upped the dosage just a bit and am now giving 2 1/2 teaspoons : 1 gallon water. They are improving slowly, but there are still some rattles both during the day and at night. As mentioned earlier, they are still all very active, eating and drinking totally normally. Even egg production has stayed the same and not gone down. Because of their normal activity level etc. can I safely assume that whatever is going on is not a disease, but perhaps just environmental?

As tomorrow will be the last day for medicating with the doxycycline, can I then move onto Tylan? I have on hand Tylan 20 injectable. Can I put this in their water, and at what dosage please?

Many thanks :)

Just been out and bought this:

TARLOSIN

Reg No. 1D 36/57
Composition: Each 100 g contains Tylosin tartrate 100 g equivalent to Tylosin base 80 g

INDICATIONS

Calves:
Treatment of pneumonia caused by Mycoplasmata and Pasteurella multocida suscepti-ble to tylosin.

Pigs:
Treatment of enzootic pneumonia, swine dysentery, lleitis caused by organisms (e.g Lawsonia intracellularis) susceptible to tylosin.

Poultry:
Treatment of Mycoplasma synoviae in chickens and Mycoplasma gallisepticum in chick-ens and turkeys.
Reducing the level of infection following stress associated with live vaccination.
Control the outbreaks of necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens.

Package : 100 g., 1 kg.

Is this equivalent to Tylan 20 or 50 or 200? I've bought this now because I wasn't sure if I could give the Tylan 20 injectible orally via their water. This Tarlosin says to mix with water. Should I wait until after tomorrow when the Doxy-Sol course has been finished.......or should I mix it together? I've done a little research and have found information suggesting that both antibiotics mixed together work well. Would love the experts opinions please :)
Also.....I have one chicken who has a closed eye. I am assuming that it is a sinus infection / ammonia burn? I have been putting Terramycin in her eye several times a day for the last 3 days. There is improvement, in that she is now opening her eye on occasion. The eye is cloudy. I haven't yet determined if she is now blind in this eye or not. Today I tried at several places to get ciprofloxacin 3% eye drops, having read that this is a great eye drop for chickens. However, I have not been able to find this anywhere. Should I just keep perservering with the Terramycin or is there something better I could try to find?
Many thanks for your help friends. :)
Edited to note: the packet states "not for use in poultry producing eggs for human consumption". So, do I dare use it? And, on the outside of the packet it says "see insert inside packet for details on dosage and administration". Guess what.....there appears to be no insert inside the package!! So I'll need some help please figuring out how much of this stuff to use per gallon. Grrrr....this is Thailand! Here is an url showing details about this exact medication:

Compare that to Tylosin Soluble Powder, because I think it might be the same, and I believe that Tylosin powder is approved for use in laying hens.

When you have a problem please write New Emergency: In Bold and Italics. Also, please give us a good description of what is going on as well as a picture if it will be helpful but don't give us a marathon story please. Here are some guidelines on what information to give us:

1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)

2) What is the behavior, exactly.

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use

Hi @evanj

Welcome To BYC

I don't know how helpful we can be with your dog

Do you have a vet?
Do you know the cause of the itching - fleas, allergies, hot spots, etc.?

You may want to consult your vet if he has a skin condition. You can also check your local feed or pet store for topical anti-itch creams/ointments that are made for use on dogs.

Hope that helps.

Thanks.....got it figured out now :) 1 teaspoon Tylosin (Tarlosin in my case) per 1 gallon water for 3-5 days. My only remaining question now then, is it safe to give to chicks at this dosage? (I have baby chicks with the hen. The hen herself is making gurgly noises. So far the chicks are not, but I obviously can't give her this medicine mixed in water without also giving it to the chicks). From what age is it ok? Your help is so very much appreciated. Thank you :)

I need help!! I have a 2 week old Whiteleg Horn chick and she isn't doing good at all. It first started this morning and I noticed it around 12 this afternoon. I picked her up and noticed that she was trying to peep but nothing was coming out, then I put her down and she kinda stumbled around, found the heat lamp and just stood there with her eyes closed. She's gotten a lot worse now. I'm giving her water through a dropper if she will actually drink but most of the time she just lays on me and won't move and let's me lift her head on my own. I don't know what to do. I'm keeping her warm and offering plenty of water. She won't eat any food and I haven't seen her poop in a while. She's the only one out of seven other chicks who is doing this :( please help me! I love this chick so much it would brake my heart to lose her!:(

I think it's okay for any age.
