"What's the security like?" asked Therese, back to chewing on her kinky copper hair.
(I know, short. I couldn't think of anything.)
"I like how you're making your capabilities known to the rest of us, though I don't think it will have to come down to that tonight," Dirk replied. "We always tend to keep numberous IED's and Molotov cocktails around for times when we might need them, like this. We should be able to find a small, relatively open vehicle, most likely a half-track or a light armoured car or something suitable, and have somebody lob a Molotov or two at it from a concealed spot. Once the vehicle is burning sufficiently and attracting enough of the Germans' attention, we'll have several others run in, grab the Jagdtiger, and quickly get it out of sight." Dirk looked around the room, then said "Anybody else have anything they want to add or share?"
Dirk gave an ever-so-slight smirk as he responded to Therese. "I wouldn't say certain death, but I think that our overall chances of injury, death, or capture tonight should be limited. I'd say low for most of us, maybe moderate for the mortar team that would stay on the rise to keep shelling the airfield, but our risks should stay like that as long as nothing major goes wrong and everyone sticks to the plan.""Okay. And chances of certain death?" said Therese, ever morbidly practical.
Kenny thought this sounded reasonably executable, even for someone with his unfortunate lack of any useful skills. He did have good aim, although it had been a while since he'd done any throwing - as a youngster he'd played games on the streets in Berlin with his friends, and they'd lobbed things then. Once Kenny's family moved back to England, he had been focusing intently on his studies instead, although whether any of this was actually done of his own will was doubtful. (Although it was true not making big decisions for himself was all right with Kenny.) So much for doctor, lawyer or even star military general; Kenny had disappeared off to the Netherlands after school and left his parents as busy with whatever Churchill was planning next as ever. It hadn't been a hard move in the end.![]()
"That's fine," Kenny said to Dirk. "We can do the Molotovs if you're sorted for all the other positions." Kenny didn't like the thought of himself being even jointly responsible for a Jagdtiger, so thought he'd better stick with something else like setting vehicles on fire. That sounded just a wee bit less daunting, at least he could stay hidden in the bushes... "Anton has scarily good eyesight. He can watch out for anyone watching us." Anton grinned. He never seemed to get tired of hearing compliments about his eyesight for some reason.
