Oh, Dottie has hatched one of the eggs and the last two are pipped. Wednesday is Day 21. The hatched chick and one of the pipped eggs belong to Wynette and the last one, I thought was Dottie's through the circumstance by which it was collected, but looking at it now, it really looks more like it belongs to my Dellie X hen's, Serena. If it is a yellow chick, it would have to be hers, though all chicks are sired by Rex, the single factor barred male, so I guess it could still be Serena's and be barred. If it manages to get out of the egg, we'll know. It's probable that Wynette is Atlas's mother, but I wasn't sure if it was her or Dottie.

Dottie hatched them for me, but she isn't going to mother them. Guess she knows the timing is off. She isn't hostile, but she won't sit and keep them warm so they are in the rabbit cage brooder in my livingroom.

I have one solid black pullet and I think a barred pair. Anyone want a lovely Plymouth Rock trio? I really don't need them and do not want to brood chicks and have no other broodies to care for them.

The black and one of the barreds is Wynette's and the other barred chick is either Dottie's or Serena's, not really 100% sure on that. Serena is 1/2 Delaware, looks like a Delaware, but her mother is my red hen, Rita. That chick has slightly lighter down and headspot area of a cockerel and is larger than the first two that hatched as well, though the leg fronts have a good bit of dark wash on them. Rex is of course, the sire of all these chicks, as he is Atlas and his pretty sisters. If these are like that bunch, some lucky person will be very, very happy with them.

Just in case this chick is Serena's, with a single factor barred male over a Delaware female, can that be sexed accurately like the blacks being pullets or no?










And guess I'll add the 14 week pictures for Atlas and sisters, as long as I was taking some out there today.

Well he is really getting taller, isn't he? Those girls are really built solid too.

Yup, he's certainly taller. Hasn't crowed yet, though Maverick is finally crowing. The girls are pretty rounded. Rowena, one of the barreds, is probably the narrowest of the four pullets.

I moved Wendy and Robin, the two black pullets, into Rex's coop today with the main laying flock; it was a tad early since they are just under 15 weeks old, but I really felt I had no choice. The old hens' coop was becoming too crowded with Atlas's group, plus Maverick and 9 old ladies in that 8x8 space. Then, I snapped a couple pics of Atlas and Maverick.

You can tell that Atlas has some width on Maverick even being about 5 weeks younger.

Thank you! Maverick has the same sire as Atlas, but his mother is a Blue Plymouth Rock. So, he's a Black Rock with silver in the hackles from his sire's side (who is 1/2 Delaware). He's really good-natured as well, which makes him even more attractive in my eyes. He sure has turned out to be a handsome guy, though.
