The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

If it had been a pullet, it would have been a bonus. Hopefully I can hatch at least one nice barred pullet next year, and go from there. Like I say, these two are looking good I can't wait to see how they eventually turn out.

I don't text, no cell phone, no selfies, don't know what twitter is - don't want to know what twerking is. But wonder what Ike had to say. Does he remember you? That is so neat.

Isaac was skyping from my kitchen. The picture was taken by Ladyhawk in Kentucky. He lurves her teenage daughter and he was having such a hard time last winter, we didn't know how much time he'd have with us, so she wanted to see him again and Skye was the perfect solution. There are actual videos I took from my side on this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...aac-skypes-see-the-video-of-a-skyping-rooster

Andrew, when I get my breeding group with Atlas set up, and it will be soon, could be that I'll have that single barred cockerel for you as well as pullets. I'm putting Dottie and her daughter, Druscilla, who came out of the original Stukel line male, with Atlas and his two same age pullets. Dottie always goes broody and I indulge her every time now since she's such a great mother.

Thank you. That would be great. I was just thankful to get the two that I have. My son and I are enjoying these two. I think the barred cockerel is nearly the same size as some of the cochins that are 6 weeks older. Granted, the cochins grow slowly, and longer, so the cochins will most likely end up larger, but it is interesting so far.

Hurrying, hurrying. Atlas is still a little afraid of three of the hens, but he's gathering courage. have to get this coop done so the bantams can move into it and my poor old hens can move into their old one.

Pop and human doors done today. Will do vent covers tomorrow and start trying both to paint the interior as well as fix the 11 x12 pen with some type of cover.

This door slides upward in the track.

Thank you, Kelly! We are so exhausted! We've never had to build a coop under a time crunch before, always had the time we wanted/needed, but poor Amanda is going to become depressed living in Zane's cage alone, even with us taking her outside every couple of days. Maybe by the weekend, we can have everyone moved, if the rain will stop. It's raining again right now, but at least, we were done for the day.

Spurred by a conversation on a different thread, I'm going to try to put Atlas's photo and one of the original Rex side by side to see if he's growing into a family resemblance of any sort.

Atlas will never match that test pattern barring that Rex #1 had, but maybe Atlas over one of Rex #1's half sisters will produce something even better than Atlas! I mean, Rex #2 over one of them produced Atlas, so anything is possible.

Loved the Isaac videos Cyn! How is he feeling? Does the rainy weather affect his arthritis? The new coop looks great. I know that you all are so happy to be in the home stretch with that project.
