The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I am finding that autocorrect on my kindle is making me more stupid, I find I can't spell words without help. I used to be a great speller, but the autocorrect makes it so I no longer need to think about how to spell words. Of course it could be age and menopause, but I'm still blaming autocorrect.

I stand corrected. Yes, texting, digital signatures, and too many teachers that just pass out the requirements expecting the kids to do them on their own, but not really teaching, has produced a generation of illiterates.

I wasn't correcting you at all, Cheryl, just adding to what you said. As far as FB and getting around their filters for ads, I'd use that tactic, too, if it worked!

There are quite a few factors to blame and parents living in their own dramas and not being involved in teaching their children is one of them.

Haha, autocorrect can be pretty stupid! I have to correct autocorrect too much! That feature can make for some odd conversations if you don't correct its mistakes, LOL.

I guess we'd better get back to chickens. Sure wish someone who appreciated these BRs on this thread lived closer! They are all nice size except the one pullet being a tad small and all have excellent shape and barring, too.

Now my alerts are popping up for this thread again.
Yay!

I find my autocorrect to be incredibly aggravating, and have to constantly correct it. For example, it kept changing BYC to NYC, understandable in an odds-based way but :barnie

I Finally figured out to turn it off on my phone.

Momma took her babies out for a little sun today, such little cuties

I have pulled Bonnie off the nest five times today and Tessa off three times. And now, Thea is clucking again! What is up with these wenches?? Lizzie is the last one who gets to try her hand at this baby-raising thing this year unless I have some tragedy where I am compelled to replace birds.

I have revolving broody hens, they keep coming and coming. Some I break just as they are laying the final egg. There seems to be multiple hens in the box constantly this year. I had added some standard cochins last year to my flock, they are like pterodactyl.

bruce, I fully understand what you are saying, however, the average 5 year old child is usually potty trained, and knows which bathroom it should be using, despite the fact that it may have to go into the bathroom of it's parent's gender. Children learn this before learning the alphabet.

Please! Today's youth are claiming to be so confused, they don't even know which bathroom they should be using, let alone how to spell, and use passable grammar skills.

If I do not understand their meaning, I tell them I don't understand what they were trying to communicate. Using different phrases in different countries/parts of this country or using slang on occasions is not being illiterate. Coming from another country and speaking English enough to be understood is a great thing and as long as I get what they're saying, I would never disparage them; in fact, if their English is good, I compliment them on that, knowing it is a difficult language to learn.

I realize that no one writes casually the way that he/she would if writing an English paper, and I don't either, but a minimal knowledge of the English language is sorely lacking in this country. It shows every day. When we cut everyone too much slack, as our educational system does now, all you get is an illiterate population. I always say, don't be so open-minded that your brain falls out. It's a real trap. If you expect nothing, you get nothing, especially from kids. Knowing how to read and write in your own language fluently is the backbone of a successful life in our country. Everything begins there. Parents and schools both are to blame.

My husband was NCOIC of his unit at Hill AFB in Utah. Professionals would come in and tour from time to time and some of the airmen would use very coarse language. He instructed them that they were to speak in a professional manner on duty, especially when they had "company" coming through, but was told that he could not do that, that the type language they were using was their "culture". He and I strongly disagree with that. Low-brow speak is still low-brow and unacceptable in a professional setting. This is another issue we have here in addition to the dumbing down of the United States as far as our own language goes.
