The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I have never placed all of the blame on the kids. I am fully aware that some kids don't stand a chance, due to their parents, home environment, peer influence, decline in the educational system, educators, and/or more than one of the aforementioned. There are just as many, however, that simply blame everyone, and/or everything else, instead of buckling down and putting in the effort to learn, and do what they should, because it's easier to play the blame game, and they prefer the easy way out.

In spite of all that, when the school has children for over 8 years, for at least 5 hours a day, the children should know the basics.

Exactly the way I feel.

(I just realized I can quote a part of the entire post without a cut and paste! Wow! That's pretty cool)

But, back to chickens. My little ramble got us way off track. It was just a pet peeve, this sell/sale thing, maybe because I see it so much, perusing the classifieds on FB and other places. But, chickens! Here are the youngsters out with the oldsters today.

I find it rather sad, not funny, when we see crazy spellings or odd word usage on signs. I realize that there are many older local folks who may not have made it past grade school and that is why they cannot write properly. Those are not the folks I have a problem with; many had to quit school to work or have some other reason for it. It's the professionals I feel have no excuse. I actually called a real estate company once about one of their highway billboards advertising "Two Acre Tracks" and said I'd like to see the animal who made those tracks, that maybe they ought to change that since hundreds of folks saw it every day and it reflected on them. That is one of my beefs and always will be. Yes, it was momentarily humorous, but then, I had to wonder who asked that it be spelled that way-was it a realtor who wrote legally binding contracts for a living, or the sign maker himself? (they did have it changed within a couple of weeks)

All I really wanted to do was whine a little about the sell/sale thing, not really get into a long discussion. As I said before, let's get back to chickens.

Wow they sure are big already. I am always surprised by the difference in size between breeder quality and hatchery. They are good looking kids.

Sorry - I'm behind on my reading and my response is way off topic now!!

Apparently, off topic is the rule of the day today anyway! Hey, Robin!

They are really sweet kids. The smaller pullet is substantially smaller than MaryJo, not sure why, just the way it goes, but her shape and barring are very nice. I loved my hatchery gals, but Lexie was a small hen, maybe 5 lbs at maturity. Ivy was larger, but her barring was so faint, you could barely see it.
