The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I have a neighbor going on a long road trip around the country and passing right through your area in the next few days. If we were allowed roosters I would be tempted to ask if she wanted to pick up one of your boys for me on her way through, though I doubt she'd want to have a rooster along on the last week of their vacation lol.

I wouldn't want to travel with a rooster in tow, either! But, I'd love for you to have one of the boys, of course.

I like my spaghetti squash.

Would you believe that I've never had that type of squash?

Aramis and Junior this a.m. Gosh, I'm only asking $8 for one or both boys. Good grief. It's beginning to get pretty late in the season for folks to want any birds, but if it was me and I needed one, I'd get a quality one when it came available, no matter when that was. But, I've lived long enough to know that few folks think the way I do, sigh. Wish I could keep at least one, but unless Atlas drops dead in the next few days, I don't need either one. If I kept one, it would most likely be Junior, though Aramis has a calmer personality. There is the chance he'd have a dwarf gene from Atlas, so he really needs to be bred to unrelated hens. I am not sure who is MaryJo's sire, either, but she is going with Hector anyway.

*Aramis is looking into the dog crate that is housing my broody Brandy right now-he's fascinated with her sitting in there*
ETA: Some guy on the FB swap group says he wants both males to breed with his hens in the spring and asked to meet in Blue Ridge (next town over from us). I would guess he may live in Ellijay further south. So, we told him we will meet and waiting for his response. It's not usually our policy but it's a 15 minute drive, not an hour and we need to get stuff at the co-op anyway, if he wants to meet before they close, that is. We'll see if he follows through. I hate meeting folks because they tend to think they can stand you up and it's nothing.

I would assume it would cost about 100 dollars to have him shipped to California. And I don't have any quality hens to breed him too.

Hopefully the guy comes through. They boys are getting big.
I hope so, still waiting. He's probably at work right now. They are about to start grabbing my older hens so I'd prefer them to go very soon. I'll miss them, even grumbly Junior. It's like raising Hector all over again, LOL.

Yes, it would be pricey for sure, though I don't think I could give my boys to the P.O. They massacre eggs enough! But, even hatchery hens bred to these two would produce better chicks.

Yeah I understand. Maybe you get him registered as a service animal and I could just fly him home on the plane.

Hopefully that guy shows. Those big beautiful boys need a home with their own girls soon. :)

Yes, they are ready for some girls of their own. He PM'd back, said he can probably come pick them up. So waiting to hear if and when he's supposedly coming. If he takes them, MaryJo can live with Georgie's group until she is big enough for Hector and that pen can be used for a broody and babies.
